Add Painter to the list of possible LG's. He only has 34" arms, not optimum for OT.
Why would they cut ManRam?

If they cut anyone, it will be Dres once he's healthy.

Kudos to all of us who called this months ago and for those who argued against it, shame on you for doubting us

Looks like we can lessen the priority on a OG/OL right away in the draft. Likely will look at guys in rounds 3-5 to compete would be my guess. Billy Turner (NDSU) would be a nice get, OT capability, likely to kick inside to G. Don't forget Painter (PS) and Montgomery (FA) as well.
If last season taught us anything, we need high quality backups.

This lineup makes the most sense going into the season but depth remains a big concern. We have Will Montgomery at C; I have no idea how good he was last season but Elway pushed for him quickly though only for a 1 year deal - hopefully he can provide some G depth as well.

Painter may be decent but its way too early to tell. He was pretty god awful last year in preseason but having to play next to Phillip Blake obviously didn't do him any favors. At this point Paul Cornick seems a more stable backup than Painter.

We definitely need to look for some additional depth via draft or vet min deals late in FA.

In all seriousness I think it's beneficial for the Broncos to bring in top prospects in positions they have in need, especially if they feel it could give them notes for future reference.

Broncos are also bringing in Justin Gilbert it looks like (even though theres a 0 chance he falls that far down).

Obviously there's a lot of crap going on at this time of the year, right before the draft...I wouldn't put ANY weight into anything said or done from this point on unless it's something official (a trade).

Elway has made an emphasis to not draft injury prone players early in the draft...and at this point Shazier would seem to be the preference.

I've been wanting Franklin to move to guard since he was drafted. Dude is awesome at RT unless he's facing an elite speed rusher. Then he becomes putrid.

lulz at people OTF getting butthurt over offseason position announcements. if Clark sucks at RT then Franklin will be thrown right back in there and then we "plug and play at LG". Not like this thins the depth as he can easily shift back.

I like the move. It gives us a more physical O-line and we still have depth at the tackle spot with Painter, Justice at tackle and Montgomery at the interior. Plus we still have a couple of draft picks that we can use on linemen for depth.

Except for Clady (Beadles), which of these guys are different than the ones that got manhandled in the Super Bowl. Compare them to 97/98 not so special. They have to prove it first by controlling line of scrimmage against the very best defenses in the NFC West. We still need an upgrade in the draft that can push Clark and/or Ramirez back to the bench. That would be more special.

So would all of Denver's opponents this year. That would take one weapon off the field and one less guy to worry about.

Having a FB is dumb.

Everytime the FB is on the field, automatic run, takes out one weapon in the passing game.

Not like we're running on 8-man boxes, usually 6, at most 7.

Waste of a roster spot to boot.

I'm for it. Franklin played well at guard in college, so I don't see why he can't in the NFL. Typically OL, if they have troubles switching to a position, it is when moving from guard to tackle than from tackle to guard and like I mentioned, Franklin has experience as a guard. I don't understand why people are upset at this. If Franklin plays well, they will try to re-sign him. If not, he goes, so why would people be upset letting a guy go who doesn't play well?

It's a great move by the Broncos. Manning can overcome pressure coming from the right edge with his quick release and at times a step up into the pocket. What he couldn't overcome was Beadles getting pushed back into his face on pass rushes. That won't happen to Franklin. He's solid inside. With Peyton as your QB, it's far better to have solid inside pass protection where he can work in a pocket. There's a reason the Broncos didn't sign Beadles. Elway knew that he had to bolster both the inside pass protection and the inside run game.
