Patchan is injury prone and kind of a head case.

Used NFL.com ranking to help

1. Donte Moncleif (WR) - quickly moving up boards
2. Gabe Jackson (OG) - big powerful guard, that needs to get better in pass protection, beef up the middle of the line
3. Rashaad Reynolds (CB) - under the radar corner that really really good. Team Captain
4. Ka'Deen Carey (RB) - yes his 40 sucked, but really productive player that will surprise folks. Grinder
5. Jordon Tripp - (LB) - Athletic LB that will start on Special Teams and can develop into MLB
6. Marquis Flowers (WLB) - converted safety will outstanding range, future nickle LB/ST
7. Andre Hall (CB) - Chris Harris clone, another team captain.

True, but Elways does and seems to like him more and more every year.
Which happens to coincide with my feelings as well.

He's got enough talent that he's worth a gamble in the late rounds. I figure that any pick that can make the practice squad after round five is a win anyway.

I would take Ward over Moore at this point as well.

I could live with a draft where we drop out of first then select
2nd round
Jimme Ward
Phillip Gaines/Stanley Jean-Baptiste
3rd round
Jordan Tripp

However you want to finish out the next picks either best OG available or WR.

If we draft him I'm gonna sneak over to camp and pose as a reporter and ask him "Matt, do you think being perpetually injured, getting shot and never living up to your 5 star hype was karma for making your Mom cry on signing day or is that all just a coincidence?"

Likes him so much that we were going after Byrd after we signed Ward...

I fully expect us to add a FS.

We had a shot at a top notch player. That would be like Peterson being a FA and us not at least going after him because we have Ball.
But... We also didn't sign him nor were we really hot on the trail of him.
Also, that interest came after Moore suffered a huge potentially career threatening injury in the previous league year.

He has brought in next to no FS's since drafting Moore. The same is not true at say SS.

That's my ideal situation, trade back add a second and third/fourth, and in that event my draft is..

2. Ward FS
2. Van Noy MLB
3. Desir, Gaines, Johnson CB
4. Brandon Thomas LG

Even if we have to move up using a 4th to get Van Noy.

Byrd is arguably the best FS in football, at worst 2nd, i love Moore but Byrd is special.

I do too but not very early maybe not at all.

We'll see what happens in the draft but i'd be pretty surprised if we took one in the top 2 rounds.

We were have said to have been in on Byrd.

So what's changed in one month with Moore that we aren't in the same situation with him? Elway and Fox aren't suppose to have direct access to him, and it's not like they would say, oh he's not doing good, we are concerned about him long term.

How many other FS's were we supposedly in on in FA?
It was pretty much Byrd who is the 2nd best FS in the game and guys we had looked at as flexible safeties who could slide over to SS in the defense.

In no other off-season were we looking at or linked heavily to any FS's with legitimate interest.
It took a top notch guy getting to FA to peak the interest of the FO.
With Byrd on the market you would be crazy not to kick the tires on that.

Honestly though, if Elway truly wanted Byrd. Do you think he would be a saint right now? Given his track record, when he really wants a guy in FA, he gets him.

Ian Rapaport said we were interested in him, while credible, he's not exactly Adam Schefter whose like 95% right everything he says.

Didnt see anyone else say it.

We were interested in Mitchell, a second tier FS.

I love Elway and said before the offseason I expected him to kill in Free Agency again. But who's to say our offer was as high as the Saints for Byrd. He wanted to be one if the highest paid Safeties in the league.

Yep we were high on Byrd but, at our numbers and he wanted more so FO moved on.

Just out of curiosity, what makes you think Van Noy can play in the middle on defense? Going from WLB in a 3-4 to MLB in a 4-3 would be quite a change. I love Van Noy, but don't think he would be best at MLB. He would instantly be my favorite Bronco though.

He played all over the place in college. He played more of a SOLB role like Von at BYU. He's very quality at blitzing, but that's not his only strong attribute. He's sound in coverage, and playing the run.

He has great instincts and is strong at reading and diagnosing the play. He has ideal size and solid speed. I think because he was used off the edge, too much focus is on him being a pass rusher only. Really he's not built to be a DE, and doesn't posess the moves necessary to be a dynamite edge rusher. He just used speed, instincts, and a bull rush more often than not to get after the QB. But I think that is perfect for blitzes through the A gap.

I think it would be a transition for him, and it may not work. But I love his versatility that I could see him making that transition.
