I like Stephen Colbert. If I'd watched these late night talk shows, i'd be impressed.

Letterman and Shaffer have been working together for 34 years, almost 6,000 shows.

A rep for Comedy Central wished Colbert the best, but reminded folks that he will remain on his current show until early next year.
Oh crap. No more Colbert Report. I really like that show.

Wow, strong choice. I honestly expected them to screw it up.

Love Colbert. He'll be excellent at this kind of thing, probably even better than he's been on Comedy Central, but I wish he could somehow end up in the Late Late slot instead.

Either way this is about as good a choice as possible. I'll definitely consider watching.

Is he going to stay in character? I would think he would stay in character since that is what everyone knows.

Yeah, me too. What he does on that program is important, too, and he's really really good at it. He'll be missed on Comedy Central.

But the opportunity to take over a heritage program on a traditional broadcast network is a great one. And CBS made an inspired choice.

A fictitious character interviewing celebs would get stale and cheesy after a while. I don't think he will be able to stay in character. A mainstream network also changes the appeal of something that was truly interesting. Can you imagine what the Dave Chappelle show would've been like on CBS?

I like Jimmy Fallon as well so there could be some tough decisions. I guess I will just watch them both on youtube or something.

Fallon is pretty good. These changes on late night only mean one thing. Time is flying by and everyone is getting old fast.

I think Fallon is the best in the biz right now. I liked Leno too. Colbert is an interesting choice, but we'll see I guess...I'll be watching Fallon in that time slot either way.

I like Fallon, but he can't conduct an interesting interview to save his life.

Colbert is lightyears more equipped to succeed in this format.

Colbert is a fantastic choice. He will be able to stay in character without a hitch if he so chooses.

This announcement must be a slap in the face for those silly(to put it nicely) conservatives who we're pushing for his cancelation/firing. He will now have a much larger audience.

All signs point to him not playing in character. He will be himself IMO.

Why would anybody think that Colbert would stay in character? He's barely 'in character' as it is on his own show right now.

Kinda blows my mind that anybody would assume that. We're not talking about Larry the Cable Guy here.

I'm not Asian so I don't mind if he's still in character. But CBS will never bend for him to stay fictitious.

Staying in character would be a total waste of his abilities, though. It'd make no sense.
