False.

Lacy had some HORRIBLE games after Rodgers went down...and even when Rodgers went down the Packers were still throwing the ball at a high rate...especially with Flynn.

Not sure why you'd just make some random thing up like that.

I think most people who like Lacy didn't watch the Broncos much and just saw highlights of Lacy.

Montee Ball was an absolute beast the 2nd half of the season every time he touched the ball.

Especially in the game against the Chiefs in the 2nd meeting - 13 carries 117 yards...9.0 ypc.

Moreno in that same game: 15 carries - 18 yards - 1.2 YPC.

You want to talk about touchdowns but in case you missed it...Manning threw for 55 touchdowns. I'm not sure how you'd expect our 2nd string running back to rack up any touchdowns...especially when he started the year 3rd on the depth chart.

Again, Montee Ball led the league for YPC in the last 6 or 7 games of the season. Ya'll realize how hard that is to do on LIMITED touches? Considering he's a back that runs between the tackles.

Montee Ball was also 100% on all the short yardage situations he was given the ball on 3rd downs. If you watched the games last year, you'd remember some of those sick runs he had where he just willed the ball for a 1st or touchdown.

actually, unless you're Adrian Peterson or Jamal Charles, getting limited touches is the way to lead the league in YPC

Out of the top 10 RBs in YPC in the NFL, only 3 were ones with limited touches. Yes, Montee Ball was 7th in the NFL in YPC.

(Blount's YPC got boosted because of the game he STARTED in the last game of the season).

And I also specified...getting limited touches AND being a between the tackles runner.

But yes - you are correct - the #1 and #2 RBs who led the league in YPC were guys that got limited carries.

CJ on a deal similar to what we gave Welker would be ideal. He'll get 6-7 million per. I think the Broncos should be willing to pay that for this SB run. Monte will still get his carries.

6 or 7 for an overrated RB? No way he had one great year and been very pedestrian other than that. You could stretch it and say 2 good years I suppose.

If he would take an Elway type deal, why wouldn't you want him on the team.

Here's a summary of what FA RB's got this offseason. Guaranteed money is the most important thing, but looking at annual avearge salaries Donald Brown and Toby Gerhart got the highest yearly average contract at $3.5. Ben Tate was next at $3.1, then Knowshon at $3.0. So I can't imagine how or why CJ would get more that $4.0/yr, particularly now that most teams have spent most of their money.

1. Chris Johnson
2. Ben Tate (Signed two-year, $6.2M deal with CLE)
3. Rashad Jennings (Signed four-year, $10M deal with NYG)
4. Darren McFadden (Re-signed one-year, $1.75M deal with OAK)
5. Andre Brown (Signed one-year, $645K deal with HOU)
6. Knowshon Moreno (Signed one-year, $3M deal with MIA)
7. Maurice Jones-Drew (Signed three-year, $7.5M deal with OAK)
8. Donald Brown (Signed three-year, $10.5M deal with SD)
9. Ahmad Bradshaw (Re-signed one-year, $855K deal with IND)
10. James Starks (Re-signed two-year, $3.17M deal with GB)
11. LeGarrette Blount (Signed two-year, $3.85M deal with PIT)
12. Anthony Dixon (Signed three-year, $3.5M deal with BUF)
13. Toby Gerhart (Signed three-year, $10.5M deal with JAX)
14. Michael Bush
15. Jonathan Dwyer (Signed one-year, $795K deal with ARZ)

I'm not big on CJ, but if they signed him I'd get behind it and hope for the best.

Maybe if Manning wants him, Manning can help pay some of his contract? That would make it work.

I don't see Manning restructuring/redoing his contract just to give the FO money to play with, but I could seem him doing it to bring on a specific player if he really wants him.

After reading this thread I suspect Monte Ball is going to surprise a lot of fans on the OM this year.

Ball is going to be a beast in his second season and I think the coaching staff thinks so too.

PS What is the status of coach Turner now that Shanahan is out of football.

I agree on Ball, I think he's going to have a great year.

We could use some depth at the position, but I don't see us needing a #1.

If they like CJ enough to bring him in though, I won't argue it.

Correct me if I'm wrong but most those RBs have had significant injuries in their career and Chris Johnson is by far the most durable out of all of them.

The Denver Post does not expect the Broncos to pursue free agent RB Chris Johnson.

Yes, the Broncos' depth chart at running back (Montee Ball, C.J. Anderson, Ronnie Hillman) lacks experience. But the team believes Ball is ready to be the man and Johnson won't accept a "prove it" contract if he isn't going to get to prove it. Johnson would have more opportunities with the Jets as the lightning to Chris Ivory's thunder.

Agree on Ball/Lacy.

Lacy is good but people act like he's Barry Sanders.

Ball was a monster in the 2nd half of the year, not saying Ball is better but once he learned the game, he ran really damn well.

I missed the last quarter and a half of the Raiders game to end the regular season because CBS switched it over to another game due to how bad we were beating them. Other than that, didn't miss a snap. Ball did look impressive in a few games, particularly at KC when Knowshon was ineffective the whole game. I believe his YPC was likely so high because he DIDNT get as many touches though. For example, his 4 carries for 32 yards led to an 8.0 YPC in Houston. If he gets a full work load, it probably drops quite a bit. Lacy was a second team all pro and offensive rookie of the year, so I'd say he quickly proved his worth, despite the early season concussion and a nagging injury or two. Ball has shown he has what it takes, but only in a limited basis so far. He has the potential to be all we need and more in the run game, but Lacy has already proven he's the man in GB.

4.6 yd career average on a team that has been down more than up.... missing very few games in his career (i think someone above said 1 total). I think he will get a decent deal and if CJ the person fits in the Broncos Locker room, he would be a great RB for the Broncos worth a 2yr 12million dollar deal. Lower risk, big reward, get us over the hump player.

I wouldn't be against signing CJ if we got him for a reasonable amount, but these stories on the Broncos' interest in him are pure Wednesday filler, bloggers speculating their way to a wordcount quota without a single quoted source. Air is more substantial. So, I'll believe it when I see it.
