Default Von Miller-Torn ACL - Out for Season (M)

Von Miller doubtful to play in Oakland. Initial diagnosis is a knee sprain. They'll throw that knee in the MRI tube tomorrow to make certain

Would it be any other way? Just like the pre suspension talks.

This team's initial diagnosis is always rosier than reality. Clady was "sore but looked ok." Same for Vickerson and others. It's always "Oh he's ok. We'll find out more tomorrow" and then they're on season ending IR two days later.

Or, Trevathan and CJ Anderson are carted off and everyone says the injuries looked awful, then they are back the next day (Trevathan) or after a few weeks (Anderson).

Yeah but, you have to admit 95% of all ACL injuries look minor no contact type things.

Agreed, my point is, we don't know until we know.

I've also heard a number of times that an ACL is pretty much known when they test the stability of the knee on the sidelines. MRIs are essentially a formality.

A sprain means a tear. Just gotta know what ligament and how severe.

I didn't see anyone post this, which Vic Lombardi posted a few tweets prior to the one above:

the good news is that we have probably 1 more year of a window next year before things get uncertain. if we are smart this offseason we could be a much improved team just from upgrading on the defensive side. Having Von all the way through next year will also be huge. Not worried. This whole ride is gravy anyway. With or without Von as long as we have Peyton we have a good shot.

Vic Lombardi ‏@VicLombardi 5m

.@TheRealRoof09 I'm told it's not as serious as they initially thought. Undergoing MRI as a precaution. Never know.

Is it just me or did the defense seem to come alive after Von went out? I mean I never even noticed he was playing today until he got hurt.

When you do the exam to test for an Acl tear, if positive, you pretty much know it's an acl (I've had a few pts I've seen in the urgent care I work at where I was pretty sure they tore their acl). There are a number of reasons the exam can be negative even if the acl is torn though including swelling or guarding (tensing up the muscles). When I tore my acl, the doc couldn't tell by the exam but sure enough the mri came back with an acl tear.

I'm hoping it's more that they worry because of the mechanism of injury it could be acl than it is the test seemed positive but they need to confirm by mri.

One thing at least we have exp with him not playing for half a season worth of games. While I'd rather have him playing the 270 pound Von isn't as good as the lighter version Von.
