As horrible as that draft was - it was his 1st draft but some of you people act as if he didn't draft a huge chunk of our offense last year...including Demaryius Thomas who is clearly our best offensive skill position player, and a top 5 WR in the NFL.

He also hire Adam Gase, Eric Studesville, Clancy Barone...

OMG I don't know how you guys defend this guy as if he didn't do anything good...

Remember when Shanahan wanted to trade almost the entire 2007 draft plus the next year's 1 for Calvin Johnson? Which, in retrospect, would have been an enormous steal (though it probably would have lead to not getting Clady the next year).

http://football.realgm.com/src_wiret...alvin_johnson/

Quote:
Mike Shanahan, Ted Sundquist and Jim Goodman of the Broncos are so enamored with receiver Calvin Johnson that they have attempted to acquire a pick to get him twice.

The first time, the Broncos proposed adding middle linebacker Al Wilson and their No. 21 overall pick as an extension to finalize a deal that sent Tatum Bell and George Foster to the Lions in exchange for Dre Bly. The second time, the Broncos offered picks in the first, second and third rounds, plus their first-round pick in 2008, for the Lions' No. 2 selection, a trade contingent on the Oakland Raiders not taking Johnson with their No. 1 choice.

I also hate Mcdaniels. But he gave us DT, and albeit he did not coach the team, by giving us Tebow he gave us one heck of a fun season.

Probably says more about you than McDaniels.

Do some research around the league to actually understand the success rates of these draft classes.

And are you telling me it's common to hire coaches like that?

Oh and did I forget... He hired Mike McCoy too.

If we were to trade up I would hope it would be no more than 2 or 3 spots because of the cost.

When McDaniels let the draft come to him, he was solid. Beadles, Thomas, and Decker were solid picks. Where McDaniels would go full retard is when he fell in love with a guy and would trade up for him.

I understand the draft, but for every decent move he made, he made an equally bad one.

For example- I liked how traded down to pick up DT but he blew the draft pick he gained from it as well as a 2nd from the BMarsh trade to draft.... Tebow in the 1st freaking round!

The Alphonso Smith Debacle was completely retarded.

As another mentioned, Richard Quinn as well.

I don't mind taking a swing and a miss on a player on which there is a general consensus but Richard Quinn- really, REALLY?

One of the worst, if not the worst coach in Broncos history...

I'll give you that. I really didn't expect much out of that year and didn't expect us to get as far as we did....

CJ Mosley, if he drops into the mid 20's. I LOVE Mike Evans and Justin Gilbert.

BPA or trade back and get picks- I take the best player available, hopefully that coincides with filling some holes that are vacated by players who leave via FA. While I love the idea of going all in and getting Clowney, Mack, Evans, etc- when you do that, you theorectially take a hit a various position and most certainly depth.

BPA- all day, everyday- or at least on Draft Day

McDaniels needed an Elway and really good management staff in place, so he could be just a Head Coach. I think the guy is very smart with football, recognizes good players and you know he wants to win...

too much power, too much say, WAY too soon.

Jadeveon Clowney. Denver is in "win now" mode, and while the Jags are looking for a QB, they are in a weird spot. So Denver packages a bunch of high picks to take the draft pick they believe will have the most immediate impact on their team. The Jaguars, a team that needs help everywhere and is content to go BPA, allows the trade and uses the bevy of picks to infuse their young team with more talent.
Shanny would get that deal done. He'd send Jacksonville, Dysert and a bag of skittles and have them thinking they got the better end of that deal.

He's good with X's and O's but is not a leader of men and was not respected in the locker room towards the end of his tenure. There are certain ways you treat people in order to earn respect and he just didn't have it.

Normally I would agree, but this season is basically our, we're all in season. If the team feels a guy in the teens is the missing piece, I am all for them doing what it takes to get that guy. I just don't want to see a lot of trading back and acquiring picks. The team is packed, and all we'd be doing is drafting backups. We need a few day 1 contributors.

If youre gonna play that game, his screw ups led to us getting Peyton.

I don't understand why McDaniels get heat for not drafting Earl Thomas but Elway gets a pass for not drafting Richard Sherman or Bobby Wagner.
