I wonder if there would be a way to disable that?

If the story about them ascending that high is true, what could the reason possibly be? They aren't eluding radar, at that elevation. And supposedly, they only stayed that high for a little while, and then they dropped back down.

Also, what is the motive for the hijacking? If it was just to kill everybody on board, wouldn't someone have taken credit for it, by this point?

Just thinking out loud.

I think info is being held back. I think someone has 200+ hostages and a Jumbo Jet. Thought this all along and now its proving true.

Maybe there was something sitting in the belly of the plane they wanted to hard freeze

Or something more sinister is in the works.

I hope you are right that there are 200 plus hostages, but I think the perpetrators hijacking learned from flight 93 on 9/11 and went up 45k feet to depressurize the plane which incapacitates the passengers.

This looks like it has been very carefully planned and who knows what the end game is.

Which one of the pilots said "All right, good night," in the final transmission?

Because it now appears that the transponders had already been turned off at that point.

"The last voice communication from the cockpit a week ago were these words: "All right, good night."

They were uttered at the Vietnam air traffic control border, after ACARS and the transponder were shut off. That suggests the incident on the plane began sooner than initially thought.

I'm guessing North Korea somehow. They seem like only ones crazy enough for this.

If it is in Pakistan, where there might well be loose nukes, I'd guess India is the target.

I'd guess so, since these things aren't supposed to deploy (or work) in the event of a fire. So there must be some kind of way to prevent their operation.

Also, the masks aren't designed to provide oxygen for sustained periods of time. I'm not sure how long the individual supplies would last, but I doubt they'd go much beyond 15 minutes.

Do we know how long the plane stayed at the elevated altitude?

Yep. The whole point of the oxygen masks is to give the pilot time to get down to a 'survivable' altitude in the event of an emergency.

If there's a political motive, it could involve the Uyghur separatist movement.

I love how OM pilots talk about scenarios that they have no clue on like experts. Are any of you guys pilots other than private pilots?

Oh boy. Here comes the "Don't talk about anything unless your an expert" crowd. Could you imagine if the membership of the Mane was limited to football experts? There would be about five posters.

Sounds like the pilot hijacked his own plane. He picked the perfect spot between air traffic controllers to disappear. He may have tagged along other planes to go undetected. The blips of planes in the flight space above that part of the world probably is like looking at a swarm of flies. If they could plan all of that, then they could easily have a runway hidden in that Uyghur ethnic region of China.

Pilot had some interesting political leanings. The Daily Mail is a tabloid of course, so this could be bull****.

why in the hell do you need a 777 to deliver a nuke to your next door neighbor? Nope! If the 777 was taken to deliver a nuke it was taken because it can do one thing very well--fly a long, long, long way and carry a heavy load doing it.

That just doesn't make sense. If he was going to fly the plane into the ocean as a protest, wouldn't a couple things be different?

1) Why go to all the trouble of avoiding radar? Why not just put it into the Gulf of Thailand? Or, even better, why not drop it into a residential neighborhood?

2) If it was a protest, wouldn't he have wanted his message to be loudly heard? The last thing you would want would be secrecy, and intrigue.

There are so many elements to this whole thing that are bizarre.
