But yes, I agree with the general sentiment around the board. Every year we try to jimmy an OLB into the middle role, it fails, and then some old (very old) traditional mike gets serious playing time. That said, we could use a guy like Shazier AND a traditional Mike. Kinda thin there.
The concerns with Shazier are real. He gets washed out of plays, takes bad angles, false steps, and relies on his speed to recover. He's best chasing, I don't love him on the inside.. I think over time he could be a three down MLB, not sure right away.

As Price mentioned, Trevethan could potentially shift inside.

All kinds of mixes, but I'm not sure our front office sees Trevethan as a MLB.

Honestly. Who legitimately wants to play for Cleveland unless they are new coming in and getting paid?
That is a **** storm of a team and has been for years.
But you will never get better if you do not draft, develop and keep your talented players.
Mack is not a player they can easily lose and then replace.
With that said, for a guaranteed 26 mil over 2 years most guys will shut up and play.
Since it's Tax Day:

$26 mil x Florida state income tax (0%) = Zero $
$26 mil x Ohio state income tax (5.92%) = $1.539 mil

Shazier and a retread for 1st and 2nd down. Try Trev at MLB.

Irving may be able to play as a two down MLB, or we can sign a player like Pat Angerer.

Agreed or one of the Johnson/other LB on practice squad.

Oh I'm sure they would if they had a good WLB to take his place. Trev is better than anybody who has played MLB for this team over the last 3 years.

Problem with Shazier and Mosley are you're going to have to trade a 3rd or a 4th to move up to get one. A hefty price, but a price I'd pay. We need an upgrade over Woodyard, not a downgrade.

Well, he did make one good point. " . . . it was absolutely necessary to erase a chunk of bad institutional memory after losing by five touchdowns to Seattle in the Super Bowl.

Elway did exactly that. Denver didn't even make an offer to their starting LG, starting RB, #2 WR, #2 RDE, #1 RDE.

This quote is kind of strange, 'As coach John Fox has taught me, in the cutthroat business of the NFL, even good men will abandon the team's mission in a heartbeat if losses threaten team unity.'

Who knows who's around. Personally I wouldn't move up for either. In my opinion there are plenty of coverage LBs.

I still love Van Noy and am intrigued by him playing MLB. I think Jones could play MLB. And there are other players who can help in Nickek, which you know well that we spend a lot of time in!

After speaking with "several sources involved with the (team's) decision-making," San Jose Mercury News columnist Tim Kawakami believes embattled OLB Aldon Smith "probably wonít play for the 49ers in 2014."
According to Kawakami, there is a "weariness and frustration over Smithís behavior that Iíve never heard involving any recent 49ers player." Smith has yet to officially be charged with a crime after allegedly making a false bomb threat at LAX, but that should soon change. Kawakami reports the 49ers do plan to let the legal process play out before making a decision on Smith's future. His next hearing is scheduled for April 29.

I wish he was someone that could be saved, he would be scary with Von and Ware.

I'm content with Irving/FA pick up like Angerer playing running downs, and another WLB being drafted to play Nickel.

If then say Shazier, Tripp, Jones, Van Noy.. Etc.. Can become a three down MLB over time, then we are lucky! We play Nickel 60% of the time, so I'm down for Shazier. He's worth a first round pic, given his impact in coverage.

I'm sure adding Shazier to play MLB would have equal results for our D.

Backed by Marlon McCree, Lowery, and those other safeties who hit like American League pitchers.

I thought Webster was a MLB but I could be wrong. I mostly remember him losing his helmet every other play and dancing like Ray Lewis after he made a tackle 12 yards downfield after a 3rd and 8 conversion by the opposition.

check the math I might not have carried the 1. Either way, Shazier and Trev are no more MLB than DJ Williams or Wesley Woodyard.

What makes you so confident he can be a three down MLB?
