The big mistake most Landcruiser owners made was replacing the OEM steel wheels with big tires and crappy wheels. I had a winch installed in my garage so I could back in and unbolt the top crank it up to the ceiling and drive out. Awesome vehicle but a serious rust bucket if you didn't get all the salt out of the many places it could build up.
My dad worked for International Harvester back then, he interviewed for the job in Melrose park IL outside of Chicago knowing they would send him to Albuquerque, after 2 years there they transferred him to Denver in 1972, which lead to me becoming a life long Bronco fan.

Anyhoo when friends and family would come out to visit he would get either their 5 seater or 7 seater, Scout or TravelAll and take us up into the mountains for the weekend. I loved the Scouts.

That's a bad ass car, and a looker, but I wouldn't put it as one of the best looking of all time.

One of the most bad ass, sure it's in that conversation.

It did have one of the best commercials ever. I liked the part where they kept taking off the sunglasses they were wearing at night.

Love the old 914 race cars too. My family had a 914-6 when I was growing up. The difference between the 914 and the 914-6 is that the 914 was a 4 cylinder engine and it was made in conjunction with VW, that is, I think VW basically put the car together while the 914-6 was basically a 911 underneath, that is, it had the boxer 6 cylinder engine along with 911 breaks, suspension, tires, etc. So the 914-6 was a much more capable sports car, wicked fun too to drive.

Regular 914 with the 2.0 liter 4 cylinder (which was the higher rated HP of the 4 cylinder 914, there was a 1.8 liter too):

914-6 (see badge on the back):
