Default JDR - New 2 year deal

Jack Del Rio isn't going anywhere.

The Broncos and their defensive coordinator agreed to terms Thursday on a new two-year contract. The deal is expected to be finalized Friday.

"Jack did a nice job with our defense," said John Elway, the Broncos' executive vice president of football operations. "We had a lot of injuries on that defensive side and Jack did a good job holding that side together. Even in the Super Bowl, our defense kept us in the game in the first half."

It wasn't long ago that defensive coordinator was the Broncos' least stable coaching position as they went through seven in seven years from 2006 until Del Rio's arrival in 2012.

Del Rio previously had been a nine-year head coach with the Jacksonville Jaguars. When Broncos head coach John Fox went down with open-heart surgery in November, Del Rio went 3-1 as interim coach.

The defense was the only part of the team that showed up in the Super Bowl, so I'm okay with this.

I'm good with this. Stability at DC hasn't been the norm for a decade or so

Would LOVE if we have to extend Fox for it only to be an additional year to coincide with JDR so they are both 2 more years.

JDR seems like he'd be a hell of a free agent recruiter too. No vacation for Elway, he's back to work

What if we just quit paying Fox and changed the locks?

I would say that yes....Del Rio gets a 2 year deal because Fox gets Only a 1 year extension. Easy to absorb the hit if he is canned after next year, and Del Rio moves into HC position.

This is good news. Del Rio is the tough coach we need and were keeping him around. This is plan B for when Fox gets the snot kicked out of him facing the NFC West next year and gets canned.

I only have one issue with him and it's the consistent prevent/deep zone defense he plays when we're ahead in games. It's nearly caught us out once or twice this year and I know injuries were a part of that cos bums like Jammer and Huff were covering but I hope he sees what can be improved there.

If Del Rio gets the HC gig he'll get a brand new contract...

If our defense would have completely shut Seattles offense out, we'd have only lost 9-8. Not too shabby.

I'm pretty ok with this. Never thought id say this but after the Super Bowl i think defence is the least of our worries, especially with key starters returning. Need to lock up DRC though and move Champ to safety if we can get him to restructure.

He's not perfect, but he's had two seasons, one which was a top 5 defence and the other which...wasnt but improved greatly down the stretch despite being decimated.
