If you're gonna start the day before FA kicks off you may as well wait another week to see the first wave of signings.

Yeah, that seems reasonable to me as well.

I'm looking forward to this, but there's a lot of time left before kickoff next season. No need to hurry it along.

the point is to finish it before the actual draft.... March 10 is perfect, 1 or signings shouldnt derail your draft plans.

I disagree. Teams may lose an important player or gain an important player that would change their first round priorities and therefore change the WHOLE draft. Starting earlier gains nothing and makes the whole process less realistic IMHO.

Last year, we started on February 26th and finished on April 9th, then needed another few days for the UDFA round (approximately 50 days in all). If we push the start date back to March 17th, then we should plausibly be able to finish it before the start of the draft on May 8th. (52 days). As an added bonus, we'll probably know the comp picks before we get to them at the end of the 3rd round.

JCM -- it's your call. Whattaya think?

I would be in favor of pushing it back, considering Mack and Ward are FA and I'd like to know if I have to draft a (C) or (S) for the Browns.

I agree that free agency affects the draft.

We could start on 3/15, have four days of free agency and still have a month and a half before the draft?

Lot of names on that list: http://www.rotoworld.com/articles/nf...fl-free-agents

Indeed I hope Med just needs to draft for depth/the future.

just have a vote...its simple... will settle all the complaining. I'm open for anything but I like the March 17th idea.

I've been thinking the same thing. I think it's reasonable and makes sense to give it 1 week and start the Monday after FA opens.

Done. We start on March 17. But we better get our draft picks in quickly, I don't wanna run out of time for the UDFA!

Our goal will be to to get done with draft on or near May 1.

Alright guys, this is what I've come up for in regards to scoring for this year. I took into account everyone's feedback and desire for Team Needs to matter, so that is now added. I spent a ton of time working on trade values. The Inherent Value Chart should really help people figure out fair trades. It's not an exact number system, but I explain how to use it in the thread below.

This should be a ton of fun. This game is winnable by any method. We already know just staying put and drafting value wins. Trading back and accumulating selections can win if you're a great value drafter. Trading up and locking down top selections while minimizing risk is a pretty safe way to score highly. Team Needs and Free Agents should be the difference makers. Lots of ways to win. Should appeal to every type of owner personality.

May the best team win.

Nice work. But I have to ask, what do you do for a living that you have had the time to work out these algorithms for team selection and now the scoring system?

I'm a family law attorney. Still starting out, not overly busy all the time.

I always do this stuff as a hobby. The spreadsheets and charts I do for fantasy football are far more encompassing than this. It doesn't take as long as you'd think, a few hours here and there. Statistics are fun for me, it comes pretty easily, and others usually enjoy it, so it's rewarding. I'm at a computer almost all the time, so when I take a break from writing motions, this is the kind of stuff I do to relax my mind.
