That was pretty sad. To slide 1 yard before the endzone with nobody in front of you. I doubt he would ever do that again.

not sure if serious.

He did it on purpose. 1:30 left in the game. After he got the first down they can run out the clock and end the game.

Like when he told Knowshon to get a 1st down but not a touchdown from the 1.5 yard line

Yes I'm serious. You have the TD right there. No need to even go through the kneel down process. He scores, they win. Simple.

The coaches (and his teammates) almost certainly prefer kneeling out the clock instead of going through another 90 seconds of risking injury on a kickoff, defense going back out to defend a few garbage time hail marys, etc. Unless you have $ riding on the point line, you take the chance to run out the clock every time.

Peyton should have helicoptered into the end zone.

I've seen this kind of scenario backfire on a team before.

Team was up one point. With the ball. Needed a first down to seal the game. Could've ran the clock dead to zero with a first down. RB wasn't thinking and took it to the house with 35 seconds or so on the clock. Opponents weren't trying to tackle, only ripping at the ball.

Other team drove the ball down and scored a TD as the clock hit zero. Made the 2 point to go to overtime. Then won in OT.

Game was dead over if the running back just gets the first and goes down

Moral of the story, if you're ahead and can drive the clock into the ground, you do it.

You mean he didnt need the score to win the game? He deserved to get the TD but backed off. Probably had buddies with the under that game and wanted them to be winners too!

90 seconds left, raiders have no time outs, manning scores now indy is up 38-26. they kick off, raiders run it back for a td... or say they drive down and score a td in 45 seconds. score is now 38-33. they do a onside kick, and recover. now the raiders have 40 seconds to drive down and score another td.

now if manning gets a 1st down, 90 seconds left, no timeouts, 2 kneel downs and the game is over.

so what do you think is better? Manning padding his stats or put all the pressure on your defense to make stops? you think the indy defensive coordinator is jumping in joy that manning got a td run?

The knee down is the right play. You don't know what will happen taking 7. They could score quick get the onside, etc

I am sure there will be some that will say this was piss poor clock management and some how, some way they will blame it on Fox.

And we have a loser! Manning was correct to fall at the 2.

Or one bad snap and a Hail Mary by the raiders. Which is more probable then 2 tds and an onside kick in 90 seconds like you're saying? That's the debate right? I think he should have scored.

Has a team ever tried to take a knee and fumbled the ball and turned it over?

I'd imagine it would be famous if it had ever happened so I'm thinking no, at NFL level at least.

So yeah, the slide was the right move.
