My two favorite QB's of All-time are Elway and Manning.

Two totally different players in two totally different era's. I really don't think you can compare.

However, I'll say this. I believe Elway could play in today's NFL and that he would be a lot better. I think PM would have been great in the 80's and 90's too...but, not as effective as we've seen him be. Just a different game with so many rule changes.

They are vastly different QB's as are the offenses. The 97 offense could & would run on just about anyone, then Elway would burn them. This offense is making NFL history passing on just about everyone, then will run to change it up and close games.

But that team lost 4 games, this one so far 3. We know what the 97 team did in the playoffs, let's wait and see before we write the book on this one.
Elway will always have the better ARM

Could you imagine Manning with two head-smart WR's like Rod and Ed?? Deck and DT will blow away the scouts all day, but when it comes to getting it done in January i'll take the 97 Wr's ****ing everytime

It's a biased answer because he was the greatest QB in the history of the franchise, and as an Elway fan I enjoyed watching him. But he was not on Peyton's level. Not even close.

Interestingly before he won the SBs hebwas also considered a QB who couldn't win the big game.
Uh everyone talks about elway in that conversation. Regardless I think it's probably a toss up between Peyton and elway

Wrong

wrong again

another one

Elway #1

A cursory google search does away with the idea thaht Elway isn't widely regarded as one of the best NFL QBs to play. In fact, 3 of the 4 links have Elway ahead of Manning and 2 have him as the best ever. So as I said, they are both in the conversation as two of the best to play and it's entirely plausible that a non-Denver fan (maybe even a former KC beat writer) can pick Elway.

Old Elway vs. old Manning. Do you see Manning with the stronger arm? Do you really see Manning doing a Helicopter run for a first down?

That's fine and Elway is a legend here, but if Manning were to win another SB I'd say history and most objective observers (i.e. non-Bronco fans) will see Manning as the better QB.

He is and always will be regarded as one of the best, but in most national polls he doesn't come out as the best. Give it 10 years and another SB and Manning probably will.

Elway played on a team of legends.

I think it's amazing and strange that I can still, 15 and 16 years later still remember all of the starters for the superbowl teams. Burned into my memory.

The 97 team could be consider one of the greatest ever...this team...not so much. Our offense is greatest offense of all time but not the whole team...

Manning is absolutely a football genius. Without question the smartest to ever play the game, and I love the guy--we're truly lucky to get to watch him play every Sunday.

BUT...I'd take Elway any day of the week. Physically/athletically, he was (is?) worlds better than Manning, and with the game on the line, come on, it's not even close. Elway literally carried 3 average teams to the Super Bowl, despite Dan Reeve's best efforts to hold him back.

Manning is an all-time great no matter the era, and his stats are amazing, but the game is just different now. Plus he's very one-dimensional (although that dimension is very good). The rules favor the offense so much compared to the 90's and before, that it's ridiculous. Elway would be insane in today's NFL...

This current team hasn't done **** compared to the back to back champions and in all honesty I wouldn't swap any current player in there. We had the best QB, RB, WR's, TE and OL in the league period. On defense we had one of the best DE's and safeties in the league. Aside from Manning and maybe Miller no-one on the 2013 team comes close.

The 97 team so much better. No comparison. Right now we only have 1 sure fire HOF starting and that is Manning. IN 97 we had Sharpe, Elway, Zimmerman, Atwater and borderline HOF like Rod Smith and Davis. Then also guys who were consider pro bowlers in Nalen, Griffith, Stinky, Eddie Mac.

Last yr Miller kicked ass but Romo would be hard to sit from the 97 team.

Those were great defenses. Not always consistent but plenty of talent and came through in big games. (See KC: 14-10)

Can you imagine this current team winning any game where our offense scores under 24 points, much less 14?

This is a fun team to watch but isn't in the same universe as the SB squads
