I just wonder why he always gets passed over for HC gigs. He's done wonders with that Cincy defense and yet never seems to even be a finalist for jobs.

It's because Shanahan stayed at "his" resort once, bought a bunch of room service and stiffed him on the tip.

In all fairness to shanahan, if he would just be a HEAD COACH, he would be ok.

But the guy's ego is HUGE, witness the little cat and mouse game with RGIII and Snyder that has blown up now lol

It will be up to Shanahan if he coaches again or not. In a year or two, there will be a team that will give him a shot. He may not get GM powers to go along with it, but his career will continue if he wants it too.

The only issue with Shanny is the GM/personnel control. If the next team that hires him makes him coach only then he'll do well.

Pretty much, but I think Shanahan will say he wants full control or no thanks.

He has got a huge ego and I am sure NO ONE disagrees on that

Interesting exercise:

1. Make a list of OMers

2. Next to their usernames, estimate their IQ

3. Sort the list the by IQ

4. Match up Shana-fans and Shanahan haters

It's remarkable

Anymore it seems like the hard-asses aren't hanging around as coaches. Shanahan can't keep feuding with players like he has. Players in today's NFL don't respond to it.

I will always have a special place in my heart for Mike Shanahan. That being said, I'd be surprised if there is "another NFL head coaching job" for Shanny. I'm thinking he winds up being a consultant.

I can actually see Elway hiring him as a consultant for the Denver Broncos.

It would be funny if he hired him as a consultant and then just completely ignored all of his input.

"What do you think we should do here, Mike?"
"Well, John, I think-"
"Yeah, I'm going in a different direction."

Really? After Shanny shot down the idea of John coming back to the team in some role. Not a chance in he'll in my opinion.

That's because the player is more valuable than the coach in most cases.
Especially when the player is at a position you've taken many years to find a good player at.

NICE! Don't forget Shanny wouldn't sit at Pat's table and then invited Champ to come and eat with him.

That would be why they might hire him.

"who would you draft here, Mike?"

Then go completely opposite position in the spot.

*Elway, coaches, scouts and Shanahan watch tape of draft prospects*

"Alright so let's open it up and see what everybody thinks about these players. Mike, which way is the wind blowing?"
"I like the injured one, John."
"No, I meant the wind outside. Could you go check on it? I'm supposed to play some golf later. "

So I am pretty certain that Shanahan and Elway don't hang anymore. Something with Elway's divorce if memory serves.

I don't think that's the case.

Elway got Shanny's help in getting Manning to Denver, lets not forget that. Shanny also allowed Peyton Manning to stay at his house, and put in a good word for the Broncos when Elway requested via text to Shanny.

Quote:
But it was Denver that seemed prepared for every question and every eventuality. John Elway texted Mike Shanahan while Shanahan was meeting with Manning, jokingly telling him to "put in a good word for us with Peyton."

I believe Elway wanted to step away from the game after retiring, its why he got into business and investments.

Shanahan is the reason it took this long for Elway to get a job with the Broncos. Don't count on it. Maybe the whole Manning saga changed things though. Not sure how he could help with consulting though. He's a ****ty GM and hasn't done true position work in ages.
