The chiefs were better than I expected. I would like to eat crow as well. I thought we'd win 42-13

Some have come in but I would say that if I owned this site and any that do not come back unless Chiefs win in two weeks then they are banned for trolling.

It's sad.

This seems silly. Let me see if I follow here:
  • The Broncos are one of the best offenses the league has ever seen.
  • There have been dozens of rule changes since 2000 that favor offenses and, especially, those built on the passing game.
  • The Chiefs offense was unable to produce any momentum the entire game, repeatedly leaving the defense out to dry.
  • The Chiefs held the Broncos to fewer points than any other team has been able to this year.
  • Therefore, the Chiefs D sucks.

I ate my Crow in the Props on the Win thread the night of the game (with lots of ketchup). I didn't respond here because I wasn't even a member when that thread in the OP was active and I never compared our defense to the 2000 Ravens, but I agree that the Chiefs defense is not as Good as Carolina's. They struggled in the first 4 weeks of the season, but since then they have been playing great.

I still think our defense is very good, though. We held the Broncos to their lowest scoring total of the season (although I believe you probably could have scored more if you needed to).

Our defense isn't the problem and It's not Alex Smith either. WRs and Charles dropping passes and boneheaded offensive penalties are the problem. The Chiefs defense is good.

2000 Ravens good? No.

I learned a lot from this game.

Unlike the rest of the year once we played a probowl QB we quit the creative and blitz-happy scheme and played not to give up the big play.

That's not our normal D. We're high risk high reward.

We took almost no risks and ended up with no sacks, no INT's, no QB fumbles. We absolutely needed turnovers and pressure on the QB to win.

I'm hurt that I wasn't included in this since I've been a member since Oct. There is more Chiefs talk on this board than any other board on the planet (uhhemm). Truly though, I think the ratio of good posts to derelict posts is better on this board than any other NFL board.

Did you not read my post? This is not about the Chiefs Defense sucking. They are good. This is about not comparing them to the 2000 Ravens defense, which is one of the best of all time. They arent even close to as good as the 2000 Ravens.

Ya i was more about the ones that were comparing this Defense as one of the best defenses of all time with the 2000 Ravens.

It was mostly ChiefsKingdom, here is his post:

I asked him if he thought the Chiefs defense was really one the same level as the 2000 Ravens, he responed with this:

"Yes. We already have as many sacks as them. We play in a league where you score more. They also played an easy schedule the whole year. Easier in fact. Go to bleacher report. Click on Kansas City. Click on is the chiefs defense as good as the 2000 ravens. Comparisons are there. I'm on me iPhone so links are hard. And I'm lazy"

We can end that talk.

The 2000 Ravens drug scoring teams down and forced them to play their (Ravens) type of game.

KC didn't do that. KC played to minimize big plays over getting to the QB.

They went milktoast and played with a "prevent" mindset when faced with a potent offense...

Im not surprised by the point total as much as zero sacks zero knockdowns and minimal pressure. Thats 3 straight games with only one sack

not like it was a terrible performance from them... I expect a closer slug-fest in two weekends but we all know who will rise to the top and claim the division title.

That 5th seed is quite the fall!

There are 4 good reasons for that.

1) Manning gets rid of the ball so fast that you can't get to him unless you get through the line unblocked.

2) The Denver o-line, as banged up as it is, did a very good job of protecting him.

3) According to the Game Recap on ESPN ...
Quote:
The Chiefs sent four or fewer pass rushers against Peyton Manning on 34 of his 40 dropbacks (85%). The Chiefs didn't sack Manning and they put him under duress on only 12.5% of his dropbacks, their lowest rate in a game this season. Coming into the game, the Chiefs held opposing quarterbacks to a NFL-low 30.8 Total QBR when sending standard pressure. - The Chiefs had seven or more defenders in coverage on 85% of Manning's dropbacks. (emphathes added)
I'm not too surprised that the Chiefs were reluctant to blitz given Mannings propensity to pick apart defenses who do, but I think they should have taken a few more risks here and there. Getting knocked down a couple of times MAY have affected his game and that's what the Colts and Chargers did.

4)

I'm sorry. I just couldn't resist, and before you guys jump all over me I'm just kidding! I don't blame the refs at all for the loss. They actually did call holding on the Broncos a couple of times and for all I know this play may have been one of them.

I think the first 3 points are valid though.
