If it is Del Rio, this might be his audition for another head coaching job.

That's exactly what makes me nervous. I still want to continue our path to greatness, this year. However, the result is that we may lose JDR. We can't continue to hide him, on the sidelines. He will be front and center...

First off, my thoughts and prayers go out to Coach Fox!

Next...here's a thought about JDR. Yes he was fired in Jax....but he coached 8yrs there and actually had a winning record. How good do you think those Jax teams would have been with Peyton Manning at QB??

Any change in chemistry at this point in the season is a concern...but, this is a great coaching staff with plenty of experience and a Veteran team. I think we will be fine.

I bet coach Fox is beside himself that he has to miss (@SD, KC, @NE, @KC)...the toughest part of our season by far!

That might actually save him from dying.

Yep exactly what I was thinking, nothing will be noticably different.

This wasn't supposed to happen until next year. This is the 97 "revenge tour" replay after last year's 13-3 one and done, not the 98 "dominate everyone, even with Bubby/JDR for 4 games"

Would you need to sign a new contract if you are an interim head coach?

I wonder if Del Rio is the heir apparent to Fox anyway.

One quote I saw after the heart news broke said that Fox was not looking to stay as HC for too long after this season. Health issue is one that could be the doorway. Fox will be back for the playoffs, then if we win the Superbowl , retires.

Del Rio elevates to HC and the staff is more or less unchanged next year. Gase will get some interest from other teams, but I assume he needs a couple of years as OC before getting real interest, and Manning skews the numbers so much that more will be looked at in the overall scheme. Gase has done a fantastic job this year, but his experience level is a bit low.

The benefit of this is that maybe Del Rio stays on with the promise of the HC gig after Fox retires, and an assistant HC title and pay for the remainder of Foxs tenure. Assuming the Defense now starts running up the ranks, as we finally have most of the intended starters back on the field, it was going to be hard to retain Del Rio after this year. This may be the opportunity to lock the staff down for the next two years.

Elway should just be a HC/GM to spice things up

Who becomes DC? This team still can't go 2 solid years of the same DC. Hard to see JDR handling both duties

Hard to justify but I still like gase for HC. Maybe JDR doesn't want the job

Del Rio retained means the Defense Cord is picked by him. Del Rio will still be the Coord in fact, if not name. Fox and Del Rio together have built this defense, and Elway is still in the GM seat.
