Del Rio knows the drill, we don't want any awkward moments.

I just hope the defense doesn't suffer from the lack of his exclusive attention.

Del Rio is an obvious interim choice, and the Broncos are lucky to have a guy with so much head coaching experience to turn to. The fact that Gase and Manning are so capable of handling the offense should make the additional duties easier, and I'm glad he has a week to get acclimated to it.

Hope Fox has a successful surgery and recovers soon...JDR is most likely the heir apparent if he misses rest of the season.

Hopefully he will be fine. I guess he's known about this for awhile and tried to delay surgery until February. All the best, but I think at this point of the year, it will be ok as far as the team goes. They have their system in place and Del Rio likely takes over the team, who has coached many years, so I don't think we'll see much change or problems with him as coach.

You better hope its not by playing better or more inspired, which it will be.

The team can use this to try even harder to win, so that when Fox comes back they are in first place.

My thoughts on this (because I know you've all been patiently waiting):

First off, best wishes for a speedy & fast recovery for Coach Fox. I love my Broncos, but even I know there are more important things in life. Health is #1.

As far as the interim coach, I agree JDR should fit the bill nicely. If only for his HC experience. The fact that we have Peyton on offense should allow JDR to concentrate mainly on defense much like Rex Ryan in NY.

As for the Indy/New Orleans comparisons, I tend to think this team would respond more like the former. Payton in NO was much more than just a HC to Brees. And, that showed in play selection a lot last season. I don't think the play selection in Denver will change while Fox is recovering.

This team is full of veterans and not a lot of "Me first" players. If this team had a Dez Bryant, or Brandon Marshall (and I love Brandon, but his persona can be bigger than that of a team) I wouldn't feel as confidant.

Kinda like Bubby Brister back in '98. Just give JDR the keys to the Ferrari and tell him not to ding it up until Coach Fox returns.

Its understandable that you have to look at his entire body of work, and he did eventually get canned from his HC job, but that is the case with most of the head coaches in the NFL (eventually).

Del Rio suffered from being in the same division as Peyton. Otherwise, Jacksonville had some tremendously scary defenses over the years - especially during the Stroud / Henderson years. If you flip the gtable, and give Del Rio Peyton Manning? Well, he would have most likely done better than any of the Colts' coaches did during that time period. I would offer that if they ran the same Manning offense and a Del Rio defense, Jacksonville would have won more than one title.

These are uncharted waters, but in the end I have at least as much confidence in Del Rio as I did in Fox - and Elway deserves some credit again for creating a deep coaching staff (to go with the deep roster). Another interesting by-product is that it probably forces others on our defensive staff to step us and fill new roles - because the chances of losing JDR were already pretty significant after this season anyway. This gives us a chance to groom his replacement.

By this time of the year I don't think head coach has much to do with it on the Broncos. In NE yeah big deal. Fox doesn't call the plays and to be honest i doubt he sits in with manning and adam gase all that much. Someone will have to step up and be the guy who decides if a player gets benched, or if we go for it, etc etc. This isn't a big deal, Fox's procedure isn't a big deal and everything is going to be ok.......at least on this side of the ball IMO. I just don't picture Fox being like Sean Peyton and coming up with wrinkles during the game. IMO the asst coaches, Manning, and Del Rio on defense are the ones doing that. I could be way off though maybe Fox a genius. He seems more the delegating type of coach though IMO.

There won't be any changes. Manning and Gase run the O, Del Rio runs the D. You think him being interim head coach means he gets to poke his nose where it doesn't belong?

That's is what I have been saying. We may be the least HC dependent team in the NFL.

What? No, he can do no wrong in my book.

But there's a whole set of tasks and duties a head coach must constantly attend to on the sideline. For example: Communicating with officials, clock management, penalty decisions, replay decisions. These duties would certainly take away some of the attention he now gives the defensive players and unit. That concerns me.

I say it's Del Rio who gets the title of interim head coach and he will have final say on the field. I think offensively he will let Gase and Peyton do their thing without interference. Experience or not it is the interim guys job to manage and keep the team as stable as possible so there will be little to no change in playing style.
