Default Obama’s New Policy Has Arlington Graves Stripped Of Personal Mementos

http://patdollard.com/2013/10/obamas...d-afghanistan/

Quote:
Excerpted from DAILY MAIL: The carefully-chosen mementos that cover graves in Section 60 of Arlington National Cemetery offer a deeply personal glimpse into the lives of grieving military families.

These reminders have now been scrubbed away following a new policy which has banned family and friends from placing tributes on the graves.

Headstones have been stripped of photos, drawings and poignant notes, in particular those in Section 60, home to the graves of more than 800 service members killed while doing their duty in Iraq and Afghanistan.

An Arlington spokesman said they were responding to complaints that the cemetery was looking too disorderly, and said the section needed to follow the same rules as the rest of the site.

Stripped away: Family photos and mementos (left) on a grave stone of U.S. Army Staff Sgt. Quadi Hudgins, who died in Iraq, which were later removed (right) at the Arlington National Cemetery under new policy

Unhealed: A broken heart (top) which has later been stripped from the gravestone of a soldier killed in Afghanistan. A shadow of the memento remains

Loved ones often left flowers, small stones and shells from favorite places and prized cigars. These have all now been swept away – some items saved to be returned to families, and some not.

Photographer Kevin Lamarque published images of the graves earlier this year on PhotoBlog.

In an article for Reuters, he commented this week: ‘There were immensely sad graveside moments of girlfriends, wives, children, mothers and fathers sitting, kneeling, laying beside a grave, often touching, holding or kissing the headstone of their fallen loved one.

These loved ones would often leave behind mementos of all kinds, a way to keep their connection to those who departed too soon.’

Mr Lamarque added that there had been complaints from families but Arlington National Cemetery remained unbending in the set of new rules.

Jennifer Lynch, a spokesman for the cemetery, said: ‘The policy is the same, but the enforcement is different.’

The rules were highlighted on the website in August but the first most families knew of the changes was when they visited the graves of relatives, according to the Washington Post.

New photographs show the graves lying bare, many with outlines of where pictures and letters were once taped to the marble surface.
In one moving instance, a loved one of a soldier who received the Purple Heart had pasted a small broken loveheart onto his grave.
This tribute has also been stripped away, leaving the shadow of a small heart on the stone.
More than 400,000 fallen members of the U.S. military lie across Arlington's 612 acres.

No, I dislike when people who serve use it a social carrying card to elevate themselves above others. I also dislike the miilitary-industrial complex that plagues our nation.

Yet more righteous indignation from the Right, with so much sickening hypocrisy that they can't even comprehend it.

Mebbe you guys should reflect on why those soldiers are dead in the first place.

You really are a disgusting piece of sh*t.

The extremist whack jobs you support are about to drive the country (perhaps even the world) off an economic cliff, and all you can do is spew the same old regurgitated Fox News propaganda.

You and all the other Teabilly morons on this forum are the poster children for everything that's wrong with this country.

This isn't any grave site, but rather Arlington National Cemetery. There are special rules and conditions for those we honor there. DoD regulates how things are done there and they have determined that to honor all the veterans and select spouses that want a certain image, which doesn't include object attached to the markers.

Exactly.

Sociopathic slimebags like Hobo would rather see America destroyed than not get their way.

They are the real threat to the security and future of America.

Things like this does show without a doubt who really cares about the military and who only cares when the cameras are on. Not long ago we had daily body counts of our soldiers, but since 2009(wow, what a coincidence) we barely get any news about it. It's disgusting to say the least how democrats and their media use our soldiers and their lives for cheap political points, but when none can be made, ignore them.

Indeed. here are the full regulations: http://www.arlingtoncemetery.mil/doc...tors_Rules.pdf

Evidently, the area in question was not having the rules enforced there for whatever reason, but the cemetery officials decided in August to start doing so.

"The changes began in August when cemetery officials decided that Section 60 should be subject to the same rules as the rest of the grounds. “The policy hasn’t changed,” said Jennifer Lynch, a spokeswoman for the cemetery. “The policy is the same, but the enforcement is different.” She said the cemetery was responding to complaints that the section had become too disorderly."

So it's not Obama's policy, it's Arlington National Cemetery's policy. Evidently they posted notices on both their website and elsewhere.

"In the past, most drawings, photos, and letters were left until they became "unsightly" — but this appears to be the first total cleanup of Section 60.

According to the cemetery's guidebook for next of kin, the only tribute permitted to be left at graves are flowers. Flags are also allowed, but only on Memorial Day.

“The fact is that Arlington National Cemetery is not the Vietnam War memorial or the World War II memorial," Lynch told The Post. "It is a functioning cemetery, and we must remain true to that mission.”

At any rate, that's the 4-1-1. Blame Obama for many things, but this is not his doing, it is the cemetery's policy now being enforced in one specific section where before they had not. They'd always had the policy.

Isn't amazing how he's here talking sh*t like he just won something when his Teapublicans just gift wrapped 2014 and 2016 for the Dems?

Talk about living in a perpetual state of denial and delusion.
