I don't have any real feelings about USC one way or the other. I do know that the head coaching job there is a much, much better gig than being the head coach of Oakland, Cleveland, or Jacksonville (just to name a few). You're crazy if you think otherwise.

It depends on the HC and his preferences. Recruiting is a huge part of a college job. Some coaches don't like that.

I get that these guys are all scumbags for the most part, but you'd have to be the most selfish of the scumbags to leave this particular team right now. Just a cowardly act as a man in my opinion.

That's true, but even then some NFL HC jobs are just bad. Period.

That's a bit extreme. If it's Del Rio's dream job and he felt that he had to take it now or lose it, I'd understand. I wouldn't be happy, but I wouldn't think he was a "scumbag".

I couldn't imagine being on a team favored to go to the SB only to leave less than half way through the season to go to some lower level college gig.

I know JDR isn't the HC but they can do something special this year and to just up and leave would not be the smartest move.

I wouldn't hate the dude for moving on, maybe question his IQ, but not hate on him.

Nah, if he's worth a piss in this football thing at all, or ever, he stays. You work your whole life to win like this. It either means something or it doesn't. You make your name on teams like this.

Lower level? USC might not be great at the mo, but its not "lower level"

Obviously, I hope he stays. He has the opportunity to be part of something historic. And if USC truly wants him, waiting till February isn't the end of the world.

In my book College is a lower level than the pro game.

So do you guys feel that Nick Saban has a worse job than Dennis Allen? Seriously?

He won't leave midstream, it isn't in his character. But if JDR does leave after the 1st week in Febuary, Dennis Allen may be available by then. Just saying...

Unfortunately, waiting till February IS the end of the world, as signing day is in early February. It would be suicide for a program not to have a coach actively working until that point. In fact, it is usually difficult to have a good class if you have a coach hired in December, much less February.

It's USC. I don't think it would be that catastrophic.

It doesn't matter who it is...you have to have the coach out there for official visits, and the in home meeting etc. Recruiting is a dirty and cutthroat business now. It would be suicide not to have a coach till February for any program, no matter how storied they are.

BTW...there is a tweet out there that some tennis coach saw JDR at LAX this evening. Not particularly reliable but nonetheless not a positive.

Notre Dame hired C. Weis when he was on the SB Teams with the Pats and they won the SB that year. So i do not think this is a Problem.

Shanny had a similar status with us for a decade. If his final years were a bit more consistent especially with converting TDs then he'd still be here.

I will say this, from this point forward I am the biggest USC fan in the country. I hope the interem head coach wins out, and takes USC to a bowl game. If that happens, maybe, just maybe the school will offer the interem coach a job.

Even then, I don't think it would matter. The league has always been copycat. At the end of the season there will be plenty of teams without coaches. Hell, I wouldn't be surprised if Coughlin gets the boot before the midpoint. And when teams go looking for new coaches, they look at coordinators on the most successful teams first.

Since he was born and raised out there, I'm guessing he has all sorts of reasons to be there.

Wow. Now i am torn.
i guess i have nothing to lose.
Krappin is finally gone thankfully, and JDR might become HC of SC.
Now if Arte would just fire Scoscia.
