Kings beat the Pens and Cindy, 3-2. Tie their longest road win streak at 8.

Damn I love being back in the playoffs and hitting 100 points.
But I badly need Duchene not to be severely hurt.

Epic battle between Philly and Boston today. Rask once again steals another one.

That dude is something serious. It's damn near unfair to have no drop off in goalie play after losing a in his prime Tim Thomas.
That is like going from Manning to Luck except Luck was already on the roster behind Manning.

So glad we have Varly in Colorado. Been far too long since we've had a consistent franchise goalie.

I would be far happier if they cleared the puck in those last seconds in regulation instead of going OT and a shoot out.

They have done a great job turning it around. I think Boston would win that conference final series (and I expect them to win it all) but it will be a great series if Philly can get past NYR who sometimes gives them trouble.

Well, as it turns out Nyquist is a one man army right now who has put the Wings back in the drivers seat in the EC wild card race. If he hadn't played just a few too many games the last 2 years he would have been a lock for the calder.

Word is Duchene's knee is torn. Talk about a killer blow to a team with momentum who has been clutch down the stretch.

Where are you hearing this?

Every site I've looked at says they have not released any information and the buzz here in Denver is that it is not a tear.

Obviously it looked very bad, however if it was indeed a tear and he is going to be done for the remainder of the season, the team would have most likely already announced it.

Duchene out appx 4 weeks

http://avalanche.nhl.com/club/news.h...id=DL|COL|home

Colorado Avalanche forward Matt Duchene will miss roughly four weeks with a knee injury, the team announced Monday morning.

Duchene suffered the injury on his first shift—roughly 30 seconds into the game—of Saturday's 3-2 victory over the San Jose Sharks. He collided with teammate Jamie McGinn in the San Jose zone and fell awkwardly to the ice. Duchene was able to make it back to the Avalanche bench on his own, but he didn't return to the contest.

He had an MRI on Sunday.

The Avs center is in the midst of his best professional season as he leads the team in points (70), assists (47), shots (217) and game-winning goals (six-tied), all of which are career highs. He is tied for third on the club in goals with 23.

Duchene won a gold medal with Team Canada at the 2014 Winter Olympics in Sochi, Russia and returned to the Avalanche on a scoring tear. He had points in eight consecutive games after the Olympic break, part of a career-long nine-game point streak from Feb. 8 to March 12.

He finished March leading Colorado with 17 points (four goals, 13 assists) in 14 games.

The injury will likely keep Duchene out of the Avs lineup through at least the first round of the Stanley Cup Playoffs, scheduled to begin April 16. The Avalanche secured its first playoff berth since 2010 with the win on Saturday.

Stay tuned to ColoradoAvalanche.com throughout the day as this story continues to develop.

Well, not the worst case for sure. Will be interesting to see if they'll be able to say for sure he's out in the first round series (probably against Chicago) or if it will be an ongoing drama of "will he suit up by game 5?"

Probably best to stay conservative and have him fresh for the second round against St Louis

Agreed.

Parenteau was out skating with the team in today's practice, and Jon Mitchell came back on Saturday, so hopefully the addition of Parenteau and Mitchell will help alleviate some of the drop off that will come with Duchene being out.

I think the Avs can win the series against CHI without Duchene. Anything after that would be a pretty daunting task.

Assuming none of the lower seeds win. I'll take the Kings over San Jose.

Duchene posted a series of tweets at about 10:30 a.m.:

"Been waiting to tweet til the official release but just a few thoughts here for you guys... 100 pts & playoff bound is something all of us have been working towards for a long time. Something to be majorly proud of #AvsNation!

"Secondly, the thought of not playing in the first round for me has been devastating. We have outstanding medical and training staff that will be helping me get healthy ASAP. I will be doing everything in my power to be ready for Game 1... And if not then, shortly after!

"We are a helluva team ready for the playoffs. Thanks to all of you for your thoughts and prayers they are greatly appreciated! #WhyNotUs!"

Anyone who thinks the Avs are going to beat Chicago (defending champs) without Duchene is nuts. I love my Avs but I'm realistic. I already didn't give them much of a chance but now I don't think we have a prayer. Hope I'm wrong.

Stay out of the 7 seed, please. That's reserved for Columbus.

Yes, almost every game. They are great. I just think the playoffs are a different animal and Chicago has been there done that. So I think we were up against it to begin with and this just makes it worse.

It's frustrating, we deserved a better draw than we got but the new format did not help us. Considering we are the 5th or 6th best team in the whole league as far as points go we should have been a favorite in round 1. Not an underdog against the defending champions.
