Tix on stubhub were about half price and nobody was buying. Halloween wasnt helping with attendance predictions either. Things are looking better now though.

It sounds like a domestic dispute with hurt feelings. Most of the charges he faces are the lowest you can get or don't require that you actually harm the person.

Ryan Parker @ryanparkerdp
The class 4 felony kidnapping charge means someone was taken without their consent. That charge carries 2-6 years in prison #Varmalov

WTF

Nice try, America, but Russia is on to you.

According to Igor Ananskikh, a senior Russian parliamentarian, the arrest Wednesday night of Colorado Avalanche goalie Semyon Varlamov on charges of assault and kidnapping was merely a plot to prevent Russia from winning the gold medal in hockey at the Sochi Olympics.

Get that Tourette's checked, bro.

You won't see most of the fruits of this trade til playoff time but he reminds me of an old time Avs kind of player--a character guy that kills penalties and shows up in big games.

I wonder if they thought Downey was in the box too much....

Tablot is a 4th line player and a good PK guy. Downie is a tweener top 6 gritty player with some skill. If they wanted to move Downie, you have to get a little more than that, at least a pick.

Talbot is basically another Mitchell... defensively responsible, can play on either wing or center... plus Talbot has a lot of playoff experience and was the clutch guy on the road in a Stanley Cup Finals game 7. It gives Roy a lot of flexibility and I think he'd like to put a defensively responsible utility like player who can take face offs on MacKinnon's line. It'll help shield him from defensive responsibilities and let him be aggressive on the face off so there's a good backup if he's tossed.

Now Roy can put either Talbot or Mitchell on Mack's wing. Before, with PAP back on Duchene's line, Downie had to play with Mack. Talbot or Mitchell fit better.

I'm in "trust Roy and Sakic" mode at the moment, so I'm OK with it. I didn't think much of the Jones/O'Brien for Tanguay/Sarich trade either, but it's worked out great. Hopefully this pans out as well.

This is all true. But Downie had more value than that.

Yeah I could quibble that they didn't get a pick or prospect thrown in but other than that I'm okay with it.

It's a solid trade IMO. We could have potentially gotten more but at the same time, we needed an upgrade to the PK.

Roy himself said part of the reason for the trade was to improve the PK. So yes, that one.

Roy can say it all he wants. This was likely a money move. You'll note he also said that Talbot's contract was "a factor."
