I agree with this though mixing Winnik in with the other names is a complete miss. Winnik is a very good role player and excellent defensive forward. The rest of your list is spot on.... And there were many others too.

Sacco's dumb ass was obsessed with "grinders". It made no damn sense. 75% of our explosive plays last season were when a player improvised and forced the issue.

Edit: damn auto correct on my phone.

Nothing about the Sabres bending the Isle over a barrel on the Vanek for Moulson deal?

I agree with you fully on Winnik. However...Sacco had him playing on the scoring lines. He logged some of the most ice time on the team. So glad the turd is finally gone and we have a seemingly good coach the guys want to play for. Another guy i'm glad is gone is Jones, i thought we got a steal when we traded him to get Tanguay back with the good guys.

It really is crazy how much they gave up for him. Glad to see him out of the B's division, though. Vanek was a Bruin killer.

It speaks for itself. They got banged in times square on that deal if he doesn't re-sign. They better have a great year or else. That pick could land in the top 5. Even if it is top 12, still a steal.

They essentially forked over two firsts. That 2015 2nd is like a lower 1st.
Of course, the haul won't matter if they end up not drafting well.
You may placate your fan base with Vanek but your franchise might suffer.

On the postgame last night, Hejda said that this year the PK group meets before each game and makes adjustments based on who they are playing.

Joe Sacco is not impressed. Why bother with game planning for your opponent?

The only thing more worthless than a 2nd round pick in the NHL Draft, is a 2nd round pick in the NBA draft. If you get someone who makes it to the NHL with a 2nd round pick, you've made a great pick.

http://www.hockeydb.com/ihdb/draft/

The 2003 Draft had an ungodly good 1st round, and even though guys like Shea Weber and Patrice Bergeron were picked in the 2nd, like 20 of the guys drafted in the 2nd either didn't make the NHL at all or played less than 50 games. And that's from what's considered a loaded draft.

276 games played for O'Reilly, to 216 to 60-something.

That sums it up right there. 2 guys out of 30 are NHLers from a 2nd round.

There are good players taken in the 2nd round in the NHL draft ever year. It's hardly a lock but it's a hell of a stretch to call a round which has produced the likes of Weber, Bergeron, P.K. Subban, Roman Jusi, O'Reilly, Stastny, etc. worthless. From the same 2003 draft you used to illustrate how worthless the 2nd round is you didn't mention: Louis Ericksson, Matt Carle, Corey Crawford, Maxim Lapierre and David Backes.

I'm gonna go out on a limb and say that tonight's B's/Penguins game is going to have the lowest ratings of all time in the Boston market for this particular matchup. Any other night and it's ratings gold.

I was wondering if the Sox lost and it went to a Game 7, how bad would attendance be (and ratings) at Boston for the Ducks game?

I mentioned it after the first week or 10 days of the season here but as I watched highlights, I am noticing the trend seems to be huge. How dominate is the Western Conference over the Eastern Conference this season?
http://www.nhl.com/ice/news.htm?id=687255

"It hasn't materialized to this point. Teams from the Western Conference were 31-11-4 in games against Eastern Conference foes through the end of games Wednesday, which equates to a pace of nearly 118 points in a full season.

In the new divisional playoff format, a fifth-place team from one division can usurp a Stanley Cup Playoff berth from the fourth-place finisher in the other. If there could be crossover between the conferences, 10 teams from the West would be in the playoffs if they had started Thursday.

Last season there were no interconference games during the regular season, but the East had been trending upward the previous three seasons. The West went 153-87-27 against the East in 2009-10, but the gap narrowed to 142-88-40 in 2010-11 and 136-93-41 two seasons ago.

The Toronto Maple Leafs, Montreal Canadiens, Tampa Bay Lightning and Pittsburgh Penguins have combined to go 9-2-0 against the West, but the rest of the conference has six wins in 35 games. The Red Wings and Blue Jackets each are 0-1-0 against their old neighbors, so it is hard to blame them."
