How long is Wolfe out?

i say if we are gonna be this thin on defense to start the season our best bet to make up for that is to get the athletes in there and let them make plays. Trevathan has consistently performed and made plays when given the chance so getting him and woody lined up together will help alot in not only the pass rush game but also in pass coverage. Its obviously a move made because of the situation but i think its gonna make us better than if we had bradley or some other inconsistent vet back there with a short time studying the defense.

This was a top 5 defense with champ Von and dumervil. IMO those players make some others on this defense better. All three will not be playing week 1. And only one of them will be back anytime soon. How will the other players respond? It's a chance for some to step up to the plate and show what they can do. I just don't know who that is gonna be.

This offense better score alot of points first half of the season.

I'd put trevathan at Mike and keep WW on the weak side.

JDR and Fox know how to develop linebackers, so I'm not too worried.

I dont see Travathan as a base down LBer, but I did see him sprinkled in there and also short yardage situations this preseason. The Broncos might want to see how effective he can be against the run. Cant say he stood out to me. IMO Travathans just a nickle guy. But he can be very good there.

I totally love this move.

There is not much difference between Bradley and Mays. Bradley tackles better but Mays was better as a wild cannon ball.

Trevathan is OK, no Lance Briggs but he is improving. WW calls the plays anyway. They can hide Irving at SAM and bring him off the field on passing downs.

Great move!

Once he was off his feet, he looked like he was cut blocked from the Guard.

Still a quarter to evaluate..

Malik played Nickel DT and was thrown to the ground. It was a Turbin draw, and he and Sly were dominated on the play. I don't think Malik should be playing base DT.

I agree. If we are talking base d, I like him better as a DE. I do think he's a guy who can move inside in obvious passing downs to generate a little more pressure in those situations though.

Malik, WWIII, Irving, Trevathan, Wolfe, Harris, Moore, Nacho (if Champ and DRC can't go week one) Cartier, Kayvon Webster?

Talk about a defense full of young starters. Better hope a lot of young guys really step up.

Don't read the game day thread. I am seeing completely opposite of what others thought they saw.

Is Cartier as good as Broughton?

2. He's ok at making plays in space, but not fast enough to be a WLB.
3. Not better than Von.

Backup SOLB.
Irving has great instincts and he has the physical tools to be an excellent Mike, the problem is his ability call plays and line the other guys up. It's the same reason DJ struggled to be a good Mike.

If Irving can master the mental side of the MLB, he can be an excellent MLB for the Broncos.

Starter on a bad team? Maybe. But not a superbowl contender. Not a top 5 or top 10 defense.

I love this move. Usually moves like this are are brought up some time throughout the off season/season. I don't remember hearing or reading any speculation on this before though. I think it will work out well. Those 2 have a nose for the ball. We'll be able to cover TE's better, that is fo sho.

Yeah but when you lose who might be the best defensive player/ pass rusher in the NFL and Champ your not going to be the same. I'm not saying they're not going to step up, but they won't be as good as they can be. I just hope Champ gets healthy and Von gets his s*** together.

Yes. It would be a wise move to lock him up for 4 or 5 more years while they have the cap space.

Well at WLB for 6 mil per I say no, because Trev can help if he leaves.
But if WW is going to play MLB and plays well then definitely pay him and let Trev start at WLB. That kills two birds with one stone.

For some reason I am a lot more content with this group of linebackers on 1st and second down than I was with Woodyard Bradley and Miller. I'm not certain if it is pure nestslgia hardening on the early 2000s Bronco linebackers, or just comfort in what I imagine is going to be three swift, solid tackling linebackers flowing to the ball. I don't think that this defense will force as many negative plays as last year, but I do see them playing a tight game that doesn't give up as many big plays, especially in the run game.

JDR showed a lot of creativity with his blitzes when he wanted to get inside pressure with backers last season. I believe the probability of three capable LBs coming downhill provides some uncertainty for opposing coordinators. We may be forced to play a more traditional 4-3 look with this personnel grouping, but I'm not sure that is a bad thing. I'll be excited to see how this plays out.

Said this several weeks ago that WW would end up as the MLBer if things went south.

Von, Trevathon and Woodyard are the top 3 LBers and the team will look to get their best players on the field.
