In fact they are fairly rare across the league. Our other proven pass rusher now has other issues hanging over his head so this idea that we are going to save a few million just out of some conception of principle when it does not threaten our cap position at ALL this year but it does hurt our pass rush.....is just ridiculous. We are still 11 under after all of this and that also includes some dead money from Doom. Sorry i dont give a **** aboit Bowlen being comfortably under the cap vs. really really comfortably under. He has spent 10 years spending below the league average in actual outlays so he is very well off. So he goes one year 5 below rather than 11. We are trying to win a SB. Deal with it.
First of all Socry,

Elway wanted Doom restructured, NOT BOWLEN.... Why? Because Doom was waaaay overpaid and it was going to drag down the future of the team in payroll flexibility. That move will pay dividends next spring when we keep good young talent locked up.

Doom was also damaged goods, coming off of major upper body issues, which are a huge liability for a small pass rusher. But I forget sometimes that you are so much smarter than the front office.

Thank God this board has you as the resident football "sage"

Oh and by the way, Shannarat deserved to be fired.........

Technically it isn't unless they frontloaded both deals, the Broncos are already accounting for $120m against the 2014 cap with only 41 players under contract (This was prior to Kuper's restructuring). The decision phase will be between now and then to accommodate Decker, Woodyard, Beadles, Walton, Harris etc etc

WHILE IT'S true IMO firing Shanny was the right move and even a couple of years over due it is not right to call him Shannarat. He did some wonderful things in Denver he just needed to move on both for him and for the Broncos.
