Default Chiefs make Houston highest paid LB

Keeping Von just got that much harder....

Chiefs make Houston highest-paid linebacker

While wide receivers Dez Bryant and Demaryius Thomas have created the most franchise tag drama, Kansas City Chiefs outside linebacker Justin Houston is the player who cashed in first.

Houston, who had a league-high 22 sacks last season, signed a six-year deal worth $101 million Wednesday, hours before the deadline for franchise players to reach a long-term deal, a person with knowledge of the deal told USA TODAY Sports. The person spoke on the condition of anonymity because the team has not announced the deal.

Houston's deal, which includes $52.5 million in guarantees, makes him the NFL's second-highest paid defensive player behind Miami Dolphins defensive tackle Ndamukong Suh and the best-compensated linebacker in league history. It surpasses the $100 million deal signed by Houston Texans defensive end and reigning defensive player of the year J.J. Watt last year.

Watch Von have a monster season in Wade's system and then demand more than that. Sigh...

No defender should get paid more than JJ Watt.

Then again, along with his sacks and tackles, Houston also had as many TD receptions as all the KC receivers combined!

Supposed the signing cleared up 8m in cap space for 2015 and Dorsey said it leaves them with enough room to make more deals.

I wonder what's on the horizon...maybe KC trades for Kendrick's from Philly.

I'd sure love a move like that.

It would cost a 2nd or 3rd to get Kendricks, go for it.

I saw the deal was frontloaded, not backloaded.

id love to get him for a 3rd...even though we've done very well with third round picks.

Houston
Charles
Bailey
Kelce
Davis
Gaines

Maybe Conley/Nelson will also strengthen that list.

Where did you find a breakdown.

Sporttrac, OTC and rotoworld only have total numbers last I checked

To give any defensive player more then what Watt makes is completely insane. Stupid owners crushing the market, nice going Chiefs.

kFc is going to need to find a replacement for Hali quickly. Dee Ford is not the answer.

Hali is going into his 10th season and looked like he was slowing down especially late last year when they needed him. Hali had 2 sacks in the last 10 games of the year and only one during the last 6 when kFc started their slide.

Dee Ford had 3 half sacks.

Once teams can start doubling the one dimensional speed rusher that is Houston his contract will mirror that of Bowe's deal a couple years ago.

This thread is about your pass rush and kFc locking up Houston with Hali on the decline and no one to replace him.

You'll know soon enough. He would've at least caught ONE damn TD on your crappy ass team last year.

Typical Dud response after being proven wrong, point at something else to change the subject.

Lol at people judging Dee Ford or any rookie. He played 9% of the snaps and still had 1.5 sacks and he supposedly sucks.

Guess Cody Latimer and Jadeveon Clowney all suck bc they didn't play.

Not surprising seeing how this board has already done this before and been brutally wrong a few years ago when he said the same thing about Dontari Poe.

Dee Ford is an undersized player with marginal speed, change of direction skills and always has injury problems. His chronic back issues are going to end his NFL career quite early. Had very little production (outside his last season) for a LDE and was nowhere close to being worth the #23 pick. It was a terrible selection.

It's ****ing retarded to call either player a bust after few snaps in one season.
