Default Wesley Woodyard hopes to receive a contract extension before Week 1.

Broncos WLB Wesley Woodyard hopes to receive a contract extension before Week 1.
Woodyard, 27 on Sunday, is entering the final year of his contract, and he's scheduled to earn a base salary of $3 million. He just signed a new two-year deal last spring, but he answered the bell by posting his best season yet. Woodyard recorded 117 tackles, 5.5 sacks, and three interceptions, while grading out as Pro Football Focus' top coverage 4-3 outside 'backer. He's likely seeking roughly $6 million annually on a new contract.

http://www.rotoworld.com/playernews/nfl/football/

After a breakout season in 2012, when Woodyard recorded 117 tackles and three interceptions for the AFC's top team, the 26-year-old linebacker will seek a contract extension that will give him a significant raise.
Can a deal be closed before the Broncos kick off the regular season against the Baltimore Ravens? That's what agent Tony Fleming, who represents Woodyard, hopes to get done. Or might Denver management find it wiser to ask Woodyard to prove his worth again before making a long-term commitment?

if he really hopes for 6 mil a year he's not long for Denver. Von's extension is gonna be a monster, as will DT's.

Dude has been solid as a lumber yard for years and definitely stepped up his leadership role and on field play this past season. Pay him.

I'm a little dissappointed Woodyard is doing this now, right after signing a new contract. That being said, I would not stone wall him if I was the Broncos. I'd listen to his agent and see if something can be worked out. But it kind of sets a bad precedent to capitulate, because again, he just signed a new contract.

He is pretty much the QB of our front 7. It would be dumb to let him walk.

He'll need to playout this year and then they'll revisit this.

I hope you're right, because that would mean Danny is a beast plus. Afterall, the ceilings at wood yards are really friggin high.

for 6 mil a year + signing bonus + roster bonus + a likely 4-5 year deal.
you really think they'll keep him around for that with Trevathan on the roster and several other key FA's to sign?

i don't. we let Doom and others go for not wanting to pay them above real value. they're not going to make an exception for Woodyard.

That is likely what will happen, and Woodyard will continue to lay the opposition out like cedar planks in a fancy home floor. If they don't deal now though, he might explore the market at the end of the year, it would be a big loss. Franchise tag probably wouldn't happen for him next year.

he's making 3.25 mil this year in salary and a 250K bonus.
my guess is he'll have to sign for 4.25-5.25 mil for the Broncos to re-sign him.

Discrepancies explained.

I agree that the 4.5 mark is about right. Thats all this is, posturing to get a number in the middle and longer term security.

Trevathan has proven jack ****. Good lord people. WW was the only LB with 100 plus tackles, 5 plus sacks, and 3 INT's. At 6 million a season he wouldn't even close to top 10 LB money. As is he is the 35th highest paid LB in the NFL. He is better then that. Also the only other key FA that needs to be signed is Decker.

It is year two of a two year deal. We get the deal done before the next off season we have less to worry about.

Well I guess the Broncos should expect this then as a 2 year contract pretty much means the player is gonna want to talk about a new contract with a year remaining on the old contract. Sign him to a new 2 year contract!

I love you Bacon Bacon!

Last year, outside of Von, Woodyard was our best D player. The thing people miss is his consistency. He has always been able to sniff out the play from the other side of the field and he always flies to the ball to make a tackle. The dude has instincts and the dude can wrap up and pull people down. He is something the Broncos have not had in a long time.

California may have the redwood forest, but we've got the Woodyard.

That would be the smart thing to do. Plus the 2014 draft is loaded with quality LBers.

Agreed. By the time Von, and DT come due for new deals Welker, Champ and possibly Peyton's deals will be gone or re-worked. He is the heart of the front7

Honestly he was one of the best 4-3 LB's in the NFL last year with Bannan, Vickerson, and Mitch Unrein playing as our DT's last year. If our rotation of Vickerson, Sly, and Knighton is as good as I think it will be, Woodyard could put up even better numbers.

uh huh... Woodyard,Beadles,Colquitt,Decker & DRC will be UFA in 2014
Harris & Holliday will be either RFA or ERFA in 2014.
Von will be due an extension soon and will be a UFA in 2015 along with Bailey,Welker,Vickerson,Tamme,Dreesen,Franklin,Irv ing,Knighton and Moore.
DT will be a RFA.

Woodyard is good, big fan of his but 6 mil a year is not likely to happen.
not on the Broncos. not with all the upcoming extensions and FA deals we'll have to get done.
some players have a certain value with them, they're so good until they reach a certain amount of money paid to them.
