If they want to put him on IR before the first cut down date, he has to be cut since he's still subject to waivers. If they wait until after the first cut down, then they can put him straight onto IR.

This is how McDaniels lost Josh Barrett a few years ago. They needed a body in camp, and he didn't think anyone would make a waiver claim on someone who couldn't play that season, and the Patriots had the room and claimed him.

Gotcha.

Then it would be silly to cut him during the first cut down.

Bob tweeted he went to the Broncos camp today he said there were no lines and he got a spot on the 50 yard line, still waiting for practice to start.

CJ Anderson will go on the PS. The guy had a good game against 3 rd string players. Guess what so did every team in the league have an unknown RB look good against backups.

#Broncos weren't kidding when they called it a mild sprain. RT @bylindsayhjones: Wes Welker is back at practice today.

on a positive note, i think irving fits well with rushing the passer from what ive seen vs running the whole defense in the middle

Correction, i think it was Von vs. the entire scout team... I mean can you imagine it any other way where it is not complete and utter domination on his part? Seriously, show me some video of Von against training camp fodder OL.

Projecting vs Balt

Base down starting Lbers: W Woodyard MLB Lenon S Irivng

Dline: LE Ayers UT Knighton N Vick RE Wolfe

I think Phillips, Travathan, and Sly will only be out there on mostly passing situations.

I mean, the guys been around the block. Hes the most experienced LB the Broncos have, hes best vs the run, and hes a tradtional MLB. I think the Broncos picked him up because they dont want both Woodyard and Travathan on base downs. Who do you think starts at MLB?

RDE- Ayers/Phillips
UT- Sly
NT- Big Vick
LDE- Wolfe

WLB- Trevathan
MLB- Woodyard
SLB- Irving

Malik may sneak in at RDE as well in the base D. I think they use Phillips on rushing downs only for the most part.

I know. They are being pretty quiet with any details, which worries me.

RDE: Ayers
DT: Vickerson
NT: Knighton
LDE: Wolfe

WLB: Trevethan
MLB: Woody
SLB: Irving

That's a group I would expose in the passing game and hurry up offense. There's run stuffers galore and a lack of pass rush presence.

Sly can't handle being a base down DT verse the run. Phillips should play SOLB. So we can pull linemen in packages and already have our nickel LBs on the field. It also adds some pass rush, so we don't have to dial up blitzes.

I have a feeling Derek Wolfe is going to prove you wrong on this one. Dude is going to be a force in the pass rush this year.

Yesterday Fox said champ was "day to day". And others say he's a mess. I wouldn't be surprised if he was ready or was out the first 3 or so games. Cover my bases cause anything said from this team goes the opposite lately. I'm still waiting for this "RB" that was supposed to be picked up.

That group looks worse against the run than the pass imo

Wait.. I have already said I expect another big leap from him and think he can be an even bigger force. That doesn't mean that the lineup I mentioned won't have a pass rushing force to make up the unit, but as a whole... That's not an imposing line-up getting after the QB..

QBs would see that line-up and run hurry up and work the short to intermediate passing game.

Are you serious? It's our biggest players...

I'm not saying the LBs would be a liability in the pass game, but when the pass rush can't get home, QBs will find the open receiver.

I am serious. I dont think Woodyard can play MLB in the NFL. Hes got reps there because hes the contingency plan imo. Hes doesnt have good size as is, and then you pair him with Travathan, whos been strictly used as a nickle Lber? If 2 of the 3 Broncos Lbs struggle getting off blocks, the run defense will suffer. Thats what I envision happening in that personal group.

You may have a point with Woodyard, but Danny T is a natural weakside LB. I wouldnt worry about him. He's a tackling machine.

Also, We have a VERY big D line...that will keep blockers off the smaller Wes.
