Default Best portable speaker?

When on the road staying at a hotel or whatever, it's really cool that our smart phones and tablets these days are bluetooth. We can play videos from Youtube or songs via music apps etc.

The one thing though, is that the sound quality from phones or tables, or even a notebook PC seriously suck bad.

I've read some reviews on portable speakers but just wanted to find out from any of you what you've listened to and what you like. I'd like to find one that has bluetooth and has a really solid bass. I don't care the size, I'm not concerned with that. Obviously it has to be small enough to be considered portable but I really really want that can hit some decent bass levels. So let me know what you all think. Thanks

I have the Creative D100 and it's not going to blow you away like a full system will, but for $50 it's good quality, bluetooth (also 3.5mm plug) and both AA battery (battery life is good) and A/C power.

Not the best looking thing but this guy understands what's it all about.....haha. If I could find something like that. Maybe I'll have to go to the place that installed my car audio and ask if they can build something.

...........well I just called and they won't do it, lol. Argh. I want something that can get it done.

Damn, this was the perfect deal. Groupon for $99 when it retails for $399.

I missed out on that one - fashizzle

Believe it or not I had my daughter make one of these and pretty it up with a simple duct tape design.

It is not the best speaker by far but if you can find the sweet spot on it you can improve on the built in speaker with it and get some actual stereo field type imaging.

I use mine in the bathroom during long showers or baths when I read.

Those docks suck. Might as well just bring a $10 radio alarm clock with me, lol.

If you want real sound, you gotta bring your own. Think I'm going with this. Reviews are great. They're a tad expensive but I'm the type who would rather pay a little more for great quality and performance vs saving a little bit and going with something cheap, where you usually are unhappy with the item not long afterwards.

I am sure this isn't what you want, but it's sort of on topic. We just got this a couple weeks ago for the back yard and it's ****ing awesome.

Not cheap but...

Jawbone Jambox. They make like three different sizes, small, super small and glorified hotdog small. Round $400.00 depending on what size you want. Ipod compatible, bluetooth, etc.

You want a bucket load of bass in a tiny package, here you go. Runs forever on a single charge and plenty loud to get hotel security called pronto!

I had it out for a golf tournament on Sunday, cranked it all 18 holes in true Caddy Shack style, got hollered at by some older gentlemen on neighboring tee box to "turn down that damn music" (he did not clear the ladies tee after all that) we mocked him badly and turned it back up! Still going strong on the same charge as I type this.

Not bad. It does sound pretty decent for it's size. Clearly not going to floor you with the base with such a small device. The one thing I do like about the larger choices is there is more displacement and thus lower and louder bass with less distortion. But, it definitely sounds like it's more then enough for a hotel room, as you say.

But not a bad little product. I think it's a tad high priced though for sound quality. If it were around $79 or so I would be a little more interested.

believe it or not, If you stick a pair of headphones in your nose and open your mouth, your music will play out of your mouth like a speaker.

You'll get better quality if you up your budget, but honestly, some of these cheap mini speakers are really good for the price. The iHome speakers look cheap and hokey, and maybe that makes the sound that comes out of them surprising, but it is good sound for the price and the likely applications. They sound way better than radios with auxiliary inputs at the same price range and are way more handy.

My friend has one of these: http://www.monoprice.com/products/pr...seq=1&format=2

It's designed to be placed on a flat surface which then uses the surface as a driver. I've played around with it a bit. It's pretty nice.

Khan, I think you need a test drive to see just what the in-house TK421 modification actually sounds like. Bumps the fidelity at least 3-4 quads per channel, but that's just technical talk.

I have the Big Jambox and work inside a very loud plant and I stream audio all day long and it works like a charm. Lasts like 10 hours too. I got it for 25% off with my Verizon Wireless discount. I think it was like $225 total.

I have an iHome dock that is an alarm clock, speakers, AMFM radio, etc, I wanted it because it is a place to keep the iphone over night and it charges it as well. The speakers are pretty good considering your listening to mp3's.

The only thing I don't like is I have to take my Otter case off to get it to dock. I might look at a less capable case that is smaller only because most days I get lazy and don't put it back on.

Att gave me a Jambox free when I signed up and traded in my old phone. Works great and has pretty good volume. Plus I don't have to risk dragging my phone into the bathroom while I shower.
