I would imagine he would be just like McGahee in that regards. He has to show that he is healthy before he can be cut.

Like Rev said, they will probably restructure him (and keep him) if he turns out to be one of the top 53. Could take Steven Johnson's spot.

Still think he takes the 9.6 which is 6 mil more than he made last year and goes for the bigger salary next year with a bottom feeder.
By then they will have a replacement up and running and no need total him again which just makes the franchise look bad to other players.

I STILL believe Clady will be in another uniform next year.. If the above is indeed the MO( modus operandi) of the Broncos, he knows he can get a better deal with a bottom feeder next year, not only better but HUGE..

If his agent is worth a crap he will advise him to do this..

Much like Dooms agent initially did.. Unfortunately the one trick pony DE market is not as strong as the Elite OLT is..

and yes I know that this is unpopular to say, but Telle est la vie

Breaking down Joe Mays $12 million deal
by Aaron Wilson of Scout.com, March 20, 2012 at 10:45 pm ET

Joe Mays Profile

Denver Broncos linebacker Joe Mays three-year contract is worth $12 million and includes $4.5 million in guaranteed money through a fully guaranteed $3.5 million base salary this year, a $500,000 signing bonus and $500,000 of his base salary in 2013 being fully guaranteed, according to a league source with knowledge of the deal.

Mays is due a $4 million base salary in 2013 and a $3.5 million base salary in 2014 when he's due a $500,000 roster bonus.

Mays, 26, visited the New Orleans Saints and was scheduled to visit the Indianapolis Colts.

Mays is a stocky 5-foot-11, 250-pounder who recorded 75 tackles last season in a dozen starts for the Broncos.

Mays has a previous stint for the Philadelphia Eagles and has piled up 133 career tackles with one forced fumble.

Signing bonus is paid in full at the start of the contract, but the cap hit is split equally among all years of the deal. Add on the $500k guaranteed salary in 2013 and the Broncos would incur a cap hit of $866k if they cut Mays before the season. I suspect that guaranteed $500k salary is a big reason why he's still here.

Edit: He ain't hurt no more. Started practicing everyday during OTA's.

If Woodyard has another year like he did last year he might be looking at Chad Greenway type money. 5 years 40 million would most likely be a good starting point anyway. Woodyard would be close to the same age as Greenway at the time of his contract.

Not as wide a scheme fit as green way. So less money.

John Clayton ‏@ClaytonESPN 8m

After the Clady deal, the Broncos have $7.4M of cap room this year and are less than $5 million next year.

10.5 of that next year is in Bailey. I think Denver's only on the hook for 1.5 million of that.

Pretty clear that that's an "extension or release" contract next year, imo.

Meh, I prefer him to get a 3 year deal anyways. Under sized LBs over the age of 30 scare me. Still I think if he plays at the same level as last year he has earned close to a top 10 LB contract. That would be about 8 millon a year.

And if you take Mays 4 mil and restructure Kup gives you an extra 8 mil maybe.

Likely so. We'll obviously need every penny for long term deals to Miller, DT and Decker.

That is going to be a sad day. Sure hope we win one for him before he goes. Would love to see them find a way to keep him another 3 years...

I think the only way Decker gets resigned is if he wants to be resigned and is willing to take a lower amount. If his show takes off maybe he'll give a home town discount. Or maybe that means he'll want to play in California or New York.

Denver won't break the bank for him. I can see him getting 6 to 7 million a year.
