If you want to talk about his coverage ability or his ability to read and diagnose plays, then yeah, sure, forget special teams. Those are skills that he can only display by playing MLB. But simply his hitting ability? He's definitely shown that in his play on special teams.
Read the last part of my message again. You might have missed this part........Because he's sure not hitting anything on the field during games, as a MLB.

Sure he plays good special teams. But there's a reason why we're saying set that aside. We're evaluating his MLB skills. I don't care how many guys he blows up on on ST's if he's whiffing as a MLB. Get it?

Kinda funny. Move this guy out of the middle to the side and he's making some incredible plays from there. Interested to see how well he can play there this week. If he's slashing inside and making tackles in the backfield, I just might be coming around to liking the guy at that new spot. Tell Woodyard to add a few pounds next season and stay at MLB. This could work out. We'll see.

If he's considered a starter, which I think he is at this point, he might not play much if at all.

Lulz. Irving needs all the work he can get. I imagine he'll be out there well into the 2nd half.

The only other guy the Broncos have at backup SOLB right now is Lerentee McCray, whom the Broncos may want to hide (to sneak him through to the PS).

Did you imagine wrong? Or did he play and just not make any recordable plays?

I just don't see what the big deal is he makes a couple plays in the backfield but gets abused in coverage, so far he's just average to me

Bump for update. Through 13 games, here's how Nate Irving's done in 2013:

2013: 23 solo tackles, 10 assists

Was hoping for better things from Irving this year. He can't seem to get on the field now that von's back.

Really wish he would have panned out as a MLB.

It's downright pathetic that he can't get ahead of Paris Lenon at MLB. Seriously WTF?

Did Irving fill in for woodyard at middle backer during the Pats game? I seem to remember him getting burned on a short third down crossing pattern, but I could be mistaken.

'Nasty' Nate is a message board hero, onfield zero. You can almost hear people sob through the keayboard when the Nasty one gets criticized.

Glass half-full: Nate Irving has doubled his career tackles total this year.

Glass half-empty: Nate Irving has 1/4 as many career tackles as 2013 Atlanta UDFA Paul Worrilow
