I really have no idea what to expect. The guy has the physical tools, so it really comes down to whether he has the smarts and technique.

He gets a pass rookie season because of the injury.

It's a shame that we had to sign Brooking during Irving's second year because he wasn't ready to step in after Joe Mays' injury.

What injury? He played the entire 2010 season had 110 tackles. Been on the active roster both years here. Jebus. If he was a Chief or Raider you'd be laughing your ass off at what a bust he is.

Dude sucks, get used to it.

3rd rounders not starting or playing much in their first two years doesn't automatically make them busts.

That's what I'm saying. Had a terrible injury with the truck... I think his rookie season was a project anyway.

Elway has said many times they try to draft immediate starters in the first two rounds and develop players that have high up side in the following rounds.

But we also have undrafted players who start. Best players play on this team.

Im not bashing Irving, I just don't think he's who we have been holding our breath for since Al Wilson hung em up. Maybe the truth is, we just don't need a standout MLB any more. If our d-line is really as good as it looks on paper, it makes the MLB's job pretty simple - clean up duty.

I know I can't believe we got Harris as a UDFA. That's up there with getting TD in the 6th round.

Kevin Vickerson stand-in for a couple hours on 104.3 the fan yesterday.

BK: Who's going to have a breakout year for the Broncos this year?

Kevin Vickerson: Nate Irving. He's been steppin' up for us good. We've got big plans for him this year.

Harris was rated a top corner in 2012 who should be a starter for years to come and was un drafted so it's in the neighborhood IMO

Shoulda Coulda Woulda

He's a bright young player but let's see him dominate the league as TD did before using them in the same sentence.

Harris has yet to make the probowl, let alone be NFL MVP. I'm not saying he won't but lets just hold off a little bit. One good year does not an MVP make.

Not all players develop at the same pace. This seems to be something very few understand anymore, even among the people running NFL teams.

I understand what you are saying, and wish there was still a developmental league for the NFL because nothing beats actual playing time for player development.

As far as the time aspect, you can't lame coaches for bailing on players who don't quickly live up to expectations. Competition for roster spots is high, and entire coaching regimes can wax and wane in the course of 2-3 years. Also, these players (even the least of them) are being paid ungodly sums of money. This is a business in the end and Owners definitely want to see a positive ROI.

So you won't put Harris into the same conversation as TD until he does something no corner back has ever done in the history of the NFL? That sounds reasonable. Considering only two defensive players have ever won MVP, should Harris ever win MVP. TD would have to come back and rush for over 10000 yards before I would put him in the same conversation as Harris.

I think it's much closer to getting Rod Smith as an UDFA, and even then it's still WAY too soon to even be close.

True. My point is to find a starting corner (and maybe a #1 corner) as an undrafted free agent is one hell of a score.
