Default On Topic lets discuss... MLBers

Pretty good article talking about the MLB position.

Irving's to lose but what happens if he doesn't measure up?

They did say he will be gone or renegotiated. He is a very good special teamer but not at his current salary of course.

Incoming Camp Status: Roster bubble

Pop-quiz Broncos fans! Who is the sixth highest paid player on the roster? Did you guess Joe Mays? If you did, you cheated, but you were right. Mays was demoted as the starting middle linebacker in 2012, after reportedly continuously incorrectly relaying the defensive play call from the headset to the huddle.

Cutting Mays would cost Denver $833,334 in dead money, but with his current cap figure being $4,166,667 the savings would be $3,333,333. Now, the only thing that is not entirely clear is why the Broncos have yet to pull the trigger on that roster cut. Mays may be in a situation similar to what Willis McGahee was in, where Denver has to prove that he is healthy in order to not get stuck with an injury settlement.

Camp outlook: While his contract is screaming to at least be renegotiated-- if not alleviated completely, it may serve the Broncos well to try to retain Mays in some shape. Irving has a history of concussions, Johnson is two seasons from an ACL tear and Bradley hasn't been healthy completely since 2007.

That and the Houston Texans (who Denver faces in Week 16) quarterback Matt Schaub is likely terrified of Mays.

Here is a good article on Nate Irving and how it is his time to step up.

I hope Irving pans out as he's got ability. As for Johnson, love his instincts and tenacity, but he really lacks speed. Irving has to learn the defense and relay the plays or he's going the way of Joe Mays, that is, he'll get yanked.

The wild card is Stewart Bradley.

That is mostly a college history isn't it?

In reality I think every player in the NFL has a history of concussions. You just don't know about some of them. I know when I played college I had numerous concussions and was never diagnosed with any.

Glen Cadrez didn't start full time until the 1998 season.

With both Irving and Johnson coming in as 2nd year guys I would be surprised if one of them doesn't win the job out right in TC.

I would hate to have to see them call Brooking back 2 weeks into camp. I would rather see someone groomed from the draft with upside start even if a little raw than have to call on an aged vet at the end of his career.

I don't care if Irving or Johnson win it, I just want the best man out there. I bet with the way Fox and JRD like to rotate guys we see all 3 play at some point most games. We saw a lot of Irving and Trevathan last year being rotated in.
