Default Raiders looking to build the smallest stadium in the NFL.

Quote:
OAKLAND -- The Oakland Raiders want to build the NFL's smallest stadium at their current home, but the team might not be able to cover even half the costs, city and Alameda County officials learned Monday.

A team-commissioned study found enough demand in Oakland for a 56,500-seat football stadium, including 6,000 club seats, that would cost roughly $800 million, said David Stone, whose firm, AECOM, is advising Oakland and Alameda County officials on stadium construction.

Stone said the Raiders have proposed contributing about $300 million toward the project. If the NFL agreed to provide $200 million from its stadium loan program, that would leave an estimated $300 million shortfall, Stone said Monday during a meeting of the joint Oakland and Alameda County board that governs the Oakland Coliseum complex.

I guess that is the price you pay when you have the most bad ass fans in the NFL.

It is hard to cover season Tix prices when all you make are license plates or dig ditches in a chain gang.

It makes sense, aside from the financial hurdles, the article neglected to mention how many blackouts that Oakland has had over the years because of their suckage. Reducing the number of seats, lessens the chances of of a blackout. They are the LOWEST in the league with paid attendance at 54k in 2012, 59k in 2011, 46k in 2010. Those numbers are a ways off from the capacity of 63k.

Murdering opposing team fans is bad for business as well.

i'm not keen on building small stadiums. if you go on a really good sustained run of success you want as many fans in that stadium as possible and you want it to be intimidating as hell(not murder intimidating though)

Don't they usually knife the opposition at away games? Granted it is only across the bay but still...

I will say that Butt-pirate fans might not show up to watch the game but when they do they don't run for the exits, and the sweet embrace of their sisters arms, in the 3rd quarter like kFc fans do during their many and frequent blowouts.

Raiders fans will murder anywhere. Still I bet they have the lowest opposing fan totals in the NFL, which hurts the owners. They are too thug to care though

all depends on the structure, make it a steel structure & design like the seahawks stadium. It would be just loud or louder than almost any stadium out there.

that's true, but eventually having a small venue will bite you.
Seattle's still holds 67K and up to 72K.
the Colts and Bears have pretty much the smallest stadiums(outside of Oakland) and there's still hold 61K.

Mark Davis heard a whispering voice...."If you build it small enough, they will come."

And yet it is pure hell to get out of SoldierS fieldS! You either have to walk 2 miles to Grant park or sit in grid lock traffic trying to get on Lake Shore Drive.
