Oregon coaches are POed they are ranked 3rd in BCS because they give up too many points to opponents. So coaches say that they'll stop putting in reserves in late part of games and continue to keep scoring with first string and defense now.

Oregon controls its own destiny. Their SOS is about to get a lot stronger than FSUs. If they win out they will get in.

Apparently there will be no appeal from what i have heard so that's promising.

What it tells me is something less than 15 scholarships total and no more bowls since we already self imposed 2 and an ACCCG. It was rumored that we quietly self imposed 5 ships last year in addition.

Golden has rigged the scholarship levels to offset losses. The basic rule is you can have 85 on scholie in a given year and up to 25 awarded per year, although you can go up to 9 beyond that if 9 enroll early in January and the prior year you used below 25 (in this example you would need to use just 16 in one year to be able to use 34 the next if all the extra 9 were EE).

Right now we are at 74 ships, 11 below the limit and last year we took only 16. So if the NCAA said 15 ships, spaced over 3 years (5, 5, 5) and a limit of 80 for each year (and 20 this year instead of 25) could still have a class of 29 this year and comply with the first year reduction cause 9 count backwards. A limit of 80 would be ok because we are already well below that in advance.

He has gamed it out well. I think 15 total going forward is the absolute maximum we could lose, considering the NCAA foul play involved and the potential for litigation du to that.

Ok this is what I got....

Football
- 2 bowls...already served, no more.
- Total loss of 12 scholies, divided over 3 years, or 4 per year.
- Very limited TV ban, where games against FCS opponents (Savannah St., Charleston Southern etc.) cannot be televised live....maximum of 2 such games
- some recruiting restrictions

basketball
- 3 ships, divided over 3 yers, 1 per year
- 2 year postseason ban.

If true, I will take it. 12 is not a big deal at all, that means we can play at 81....we are at 74 right now. And not televising a game against a Division 8 opponent has no effect on anything.

We will see if this holds up tomorrow.

I expected Miami to get the kid glove treatment, and of course, they did. Here's what USC got: http://www.fighton.com/NCAA.htm

The next question is why did the NCAA COI make this one-sided attempt to rewrite history and severely handicap USC's football program going forward? Only the Committee members can answer that. While USC had no motive in the primary student athlete infractions, in fact USC was the victim (losing two high profile athletes to the pros prematurely), there is a clear conflict of interest on the part of the Chair of the Committee (representing the University of Miami) and at least one other member (representing Notre Dame).

Nice to see how Miami was able to work out a good "deal" for themselves.

What you are forgetting to mention Roh is that unlike USC we set a standard for cooperation during the investigation and we also self imposed more penalties than anyone in recent memory.

You guys didn't self impose **** And you stonewalled at every turn. That counts a big deal in the eyes of the COI.

So today is a great day.

- No further bowls.
- Scholarship losses are relatively slight. 9 ships total...3 per year for 3 years.
- some of the former coaches, including Clint Hurtt who is at Louisville, got show causes. I'm glad to see Hurtt suffer because that will really hurt Louisville in recruiting.

I'm glad we skated....we ****ing deserved it after all the malfeasance the NCAA committed and the recruiting harm all these delays had. Lesson is cooperate and self impose to a significant degree and you'll be alright.

Thank you Donna, Mike Glazier and Al Golden.

Yeah. I'm sure Miami did a much better job of wining and dining the COI. And I'm sure it didn't hurt that the Chair of the Committee represents Miami.

Keep in mind, the NCAA was never able to prove that Pete Carroll or anybody at USC knew what Reggie Bush was up to off campus, and as the link above shows, they had a damn good reason for fighting the accusations. Miami, of course, knew they were guilty all along so they knew they had to schmooze their way out of it.

Miami; in they aren't on sanctions, they're about to be on sanctions. Next to USC, this is the most sanctioned team in the NCAA.

I'm glad you didn't read the actual Miami report or you would be really pissed. The 9 scholies are a mirage. Its not real. There is nothing actually forcing us to take 22 a year instead of 25. Unlike the language used in USC and Penn St. they said here the university has the option to assign the 9 anyway we want. There is no limit on class sizes per year. Just 9 over 3.

We are at 74 right now on purpose. We could sign 28 kids this year have 8 count backward to last year (only 16) by early enrolling those 8 in January so on paper there are only 20 for this year instead of 25 and we have already "slashed" 5 of the 9 ships even tho we have a big class.

There are no scholarship reductions at all in reality. Virtually none.

Why?

Anything "SEC" has to be the best thing ever. And with many 1 loss SEC teams dropping yesterday they need more SEC teams to prop up.

While I think the SEC is the best conference in college football, they are also very overrated.

Look at Texas A&M and Missouri...a couple years ago they were in the Big 12 and okay teams...now that they are in the SEC they are constantly praised and once again overrated.

The hate is strong in this one.

Not really. Miami's sanctions were more severe than Ohio State's.

2 bowls and 9 ships > 1 bowl and 9 ships

Last years bowl ban cost OSU national title. They would have played ND and waxed them.

Gene Smith is a moron for not doing what Miami did with self inflicting two meaningless bowl bans.

I think the punishment for Miami was somewhat in line. They should have to vacate their wins from the period of cheating, but anyway.

I do think though that if Miami gets caught again that their athletic programs should be shutdown for a period of time.
