Default Urlacher retires

Brian Urlacher - LB - Free Agent

Free agent MLB Brian Urlacher has retired from the NFL after 13 seasons.
Urlacher, 35 in three days, spent his entire career with the Bears. "Although I could continue playing, I'm not sure I would bring a level of performance or passion that's up to my standards," Urlacher wrote in a statement. "When considering this, along with the fact that I could retire after a 13-year career wearing only one jersey for such a storied franchise, my decision became pretty clear." It's hard to see Urlacher forced out of the game like this, but no team was willing to sign him after his skills declined sharply last season. An injury to a middle linebacker around the league could give Urlacher an opportunity, and he could change his mind. But at this moment, he finishes his career with 1,229 tackles, 41.5 sacks, 22 interceptions, 12 forced fumbles, and eight Pro Bowl selections. He's a shoo-in for the Hall of Fame.

He should stay retired. Not many players in today's sports go into HOFs playing for only one team. Almost impossible in basketball anymore. Not many tim Duncan's out there. Baseball and football is a little easier to stick with one team but FA in the modern era has cut into the one team player population.

He's a shoo-in for the HoF but yet Randy Gradishar isn't?

Props to Urlacher on a hell of a career. Not bad for a kid from Lovington, NM.

I doubt he gets in the first year. No way they vote both Lewis and Urlacher in the same year.

I'm more concerned with the comment that Urlacher is a shoo-in for the HoF. I know he's a HoF LBer but what irks me is that Gradishar has almost twice as many tackles (yet half as many sacks) and similar things like probowls yet Gradishar is struggling to even be mentioned as a HoF candidate. It's unreal how Gradishar is consistently snubbed or ignored and a guy like Urlacher is a "shoo-in." It just does not compute.

He had a great career, the Denny green 'they are who we thought they were game' was the one that defined his career.

As a big fan of his, it's the right move. He deserves to retire a Bear and go to the HOF. He was done physically. Not done in an eek out a couple more decent seasons at 75 percent done. Done as in Jerry Rice in a Bronco uniform done.

Hopefully he kept his money situation right, and doesn't impregnate any more whores.

No kidding. The hall is a joke. How many people walk by the Harry Carson bust and ask; "who?"

Apparently 800 more tackles over 9 seasons versus 13 makes him worse. Makes sense.
