Default Warp Drive?

However, there's a loophole in Einstein's general theory of relativity that could allow a ship to traverse vast distances in less time than it would take light. The trick? It's not the starship that's moving — it's the space around it.
In fact, scientists at NASA are right now working on the first practical field test toward proving the possibility of warp drives and faster-than-light travel. Maybe the warp drive on "Star Trek" is possible after all. [See also: Warp Drive: Can It Be Done? (Video)]

http://science.nbcnews.com/_news/201...-possible?lite

I sure as hell don't understand the physics behind this, but with the leaps we are making in quantum physics, and who knows, maybe even a glimpse of the unified field, perhaps all things are possible? Sign me up to explore the first Earth-like planet.

It would take a ton of power to move anything of any significant mass.

I would love to see them working on refining ION or even chemical based propulsion and begin exploring our own back yard before jumping off light years from here.

Unless this experiment is being conducted by Nazi scientists, I hold out little hope. Just more disinformation.

How do we not know that it was them who got Shanny fired so mCd would draft Tebow

Just saying in the perfect timeline we wouldn't have had to endure those 18 months.

We should start by uncovering the Prothean ruins on Mars.

Now all we need is guild navigators and some melange. Actually, the spice would have to be first. It's happening people!

I fully agree, every time the Americans have tried to go it alone with any space endeavour it has ended up horribly - bring in some Germans, either jews or white supremacists and you are in business.

With this warp drive who needs Ender's MD Device?

"When the Alcubierre-driven ship decelerates from superluminal speed, the particles its bubble has gathered are released in energetic outbursts. In the case of forward-facing particles the outburst can be very energetic — enough to destroy anyone at the destination directly in front of the ship.
“Any people at the destination,” the team’s paper concludes, “would be gamma ray and high energy particle blasted into oblivion due to the extreme blueshifts for [forward] region particles.”

...the amount of energy released is dependent on the length of the superluminal journey, but there is potentially no limit on its intensity.

...Unfortunately, even for very short journeys the energy released is so large that you would completely obliterate anything in front of you.
