Still like Quintin Mikell..

Sure Woodson is a nice hybrid player.. But I would prefer Woodson as a situational player and not our starting strong safety.. Mikell is six years younger, and good against the run and pass.. He has been very underrated his whole career..

Woodson is a good signing if we can get him. two years would be ideal. if he doesn't perform well then we cut him next year and be done. if he plays well we get him for a cheap 2nd year.

There's got to be a reason no one seems to have interest in the guy, and it seems like a stretch to say it's simply because he's "underrated".

The Raiders have invited free agent Charles Woodson in for a visit next week.
"As of right now the plan is for him to fly in Tuesday," Woodson's agent said. "We are still waiting for their official schedule at this time." Woodson visited the Broncos on Wednesday but left without a contract, and the Giants have reportedly "dipped their toe in the water" for the veteran. The Raiders have holes all over their defense, and it would be a nice spot for Woodson if he wants to play as much as possible. Woodson spent the first eight years of his career in Oakland.

St. Louis cut him to free up money, they couldn't agree on a restructured deal, he was set to make $6 million this year, with a 9 million cap hit..

Pro Football Focus (which everyone loves) had him in their top five safeties last season and he has graded out as the top coverage safety several seasons running..

Well Woodson is also looked at upon the Giants as well. But he is going to have to take less due to his age. Not being like a $6M man!

Late game war for this dude. Three to four teams in on him doesn't help us. Lesser teams like Oakland and Carolina will offer him playing time and they want him to be an influence on their younger players. They NEED him. He has his ring. I'll be surprised if we land him. Would be nice.

You might be onto something Bmore. Any idea why he hasn't signed anywhere?

Three posts up..

I think it's $

$9 million is a large cap hit.. Maybe he hasn't lowered his asking price, since he wouldn't restructure.

It has to be a big factor. He's at the end of his career. He has nothing left to prove.

Is Mikell that much of an upgrade over Adams right now?

That doesn't necessarily make him better at this point. Reed also might not be the "matchup safety" type they're looking to potentially use Woodson as.

He either wants money or hard wear, same applies to majority of veterans available in free agency, they wither want money or hard wear.

IMO at his age he would not have been healthy by the playoffs. Now as a reserve/situational guy, or a spot starter I think he could help us. IMO though when players get that close to 40 and coming off an injury they rarely play well again. He is a special player so if anyone had a shot at it a player like Woodson does.

Still there were better younger safety's in FA earlier. I can't imagine they would now spend a lot on Woodson. Not when they could have IMO found a better one. If they do sign Woodson that means they wanted a safety in the draft but didn't get him.

Charles Woodson - DB - Free Agent

Free agent Charles Woodson's rep says he received an offer from the Broncos.

According to @RapSheet the #Broncos are the only team to have offered Charles Woodson more than the $940K minimum http://iao.fm/10COQOs

From reading the link, it sounds like we have the highest offer, but we'll have to up it to get him to sign?

Well I didn't think that Adams played as poorly as others think. I think he is a solid safety, but Mikell is better. I'm not sure with ages factored in and money especially, that it's a marginal difference worth the money.

Now if he signed for a reasonable deal, I would bring him on.. But Woodson would be better in a situational role against Tight Ends than Mikell or Adams. But Mikell is better than Adams.

Unless perhaps nobody else offers him more.

The Raiders will offer more than it will be up to Woodson.

I wouldn't think so. I would much rather find out if Q. Carter can take Adams spot then reaching out and paying somebody else.

Why did offenses target Woodson(when he was healthy enough to play)last year?

It happens to all players that come off an injury,it's practically mandatory to test players coming off of injury.

yep, makes sense to try to catch them at less than 100%. a CB or S needs their shoulders and arms as much as their hips and legs so if they're coming off of a break, tear or severe sprain it is smart to test them.

maybe they're off their game, maybe they can't quite move they way they're used to or maybe they will never be back to what they once were.
either way you tempt fate and see.
