But won’t the missing emails contribute to a cover-up? No, not really. The IRS has already produced 67,000 emails to and from Lerner, from 2009 to 2013, and were able to piece together 24,000 Lerner emails from the missing period based those who’d been cc’d in various messages. How many of them include incriminating information? As best as we can tell, none – Republicans have leaked anything and everything in the hopes of keeping this story alive, but they haven’t leaked anything on this front.

Also note, the period of time Republicans care about is 2012 – the election year. The missing emails are from 2010 and 2011. I’m no criminal mastermind, but if the IRS were trying to hide incriminating evidence of what Lerner was up to in 2012, the agency probably would have destroyed emails from 2012.

There is a lawsuit going on right now against the IRS about targeting tea party groups. The IRS could have used the emails to exonerate themselves, but instead, "lose" them, so one has to wonder just how bad they look in those emails to risk losing a lawsuit over. But I know, nothing to see here, Obama's admin. is the most honest and transparent one in history. Geez, the Obama loyalists are dumb.

Looking at the players in the IRS at the time of the 'persecution,' the head of the IRS was Douglas Shulman, a Bush political appointee.
He resigned in Nov of 2012, so he was in control when the IRS was targeting political groups applying for tax free status .

What would be his motivation in targeting right wing groups on behalf of Obama?? The IRS also went after left wing tax free applicants, right?

What am I missing?

You are not missing anything, the government is there to serve the people and does so without exception, this news on every front is just sour grapes.

We are as perfect a government as humanly possible. We should just drink our beer and shoot pool.

From my understanding, the potential emails you're talking about were never held by the federal government, but by the RNC.

In your view, does this new email scandal entitle House Republicans to all of the DNC's privately held email?

Heh. That a career bureaucrat/political appointee is at best peripheral to these kinds of activities. Do you think he directly knew about the vanishing data? Or even the targeting?

Regardless, judging a bureacratic wonk's involvements and motives based on who appointed him is tricky business.

Remember, CIA's director was a Clinton Appointee who served all the way up to and through the 2003 invasion of Iraq.

Guess you're taking Bush off the hook for all the CIA's effups over that period?

Yep, looks like I do. As soon as you start banging the table until the DNC turns over all of it's correspondence with the White House, we'll talk.

Apples and Oranges.

I have no idea, do you think the POTUS knew?

Some not only claim Obama knew, but initiated and led a witch-hunt against those audited.

Interesting but did they replace the company with another? IRS cancels Email storage company to make sure emails can get "lost" easier and forever?

Nobody knows how far up it went. No point speculating.

But people thought Nixon knowing anything about Watergate was crazy talk right up until it became clear he did. Regardless, you don't pop a squat on investigating serious government illegalities just because you doubt it can be linked directly to the Oval Office.

We've seen more than enough evidence of possible criminal activity to appoint a special prosecutor. Just like busting up any criminal enterprise, you start at the bottom and work your way up.

That may or may not be. But it's a huge leap from there to the RNC turning over it's emails to House Democrats.

The Obama admin has also at times been accused of inappropriate coordination between its political and administrative roles. It's more likely than not that just this kind of thing still goes on.

But we won't know for sure until the DNC turns over all of its emails to Issa. Until then, we'll just say 8 bajillion emails are missing. See how that works?

Any spotlight on IRS activities are welcome.

It's the instant politicizing that has become predictable.

Politicizing? The Obama administration and Congressional Democrats conscripted the IRS to target Conservative groups.

I'm afraid your cries of 'politicizing' went out the window as soon as Democrat leaders specifically targeted their political rivals through the strong arm of the IRS.

I think the irony is that if Obama is truly behind all these things some people claim he must be the hardest working individual in the known universe.

It's a fun corollary to the picture of the Brush-Clearin' GW down at CIA HQ hand-fabricating evidence to get 'Merica into Iraq to finish Daddy's War (you know, the war daddy apparently didn't think was worth winning in the first place)

If the IRS had nothing to hide, they wouldn't lose emails that would have exonerated themselves or thrown away hard drives. This is common practice by them?

Not to mention the VA scandal. Hell Obama had a letter sent to him in 2013 begging him to get involved.

While The politicization of the IRS is commonplace in virtually every administration and Obama is likely within the norm, it is fun seeing Trey Gowdy go to work.

He's a future chairman of the Judiciary Committee and probably the AG in a GOP administration.

Either way he is crap. Either he is dirty and part of a cover up, or he is not able to control his administration. Either way he's a ****ty President.
