Woodson seems more of a liability even with his leadership due to age/injury. At the end Dawkins was starting to show signs of that too. Id rather see webster and his physicality/speed at the safety.

Don't know if we could afford Woodson at this point, but I would love to have him on this team.

I think that's a dangerous proposition--starting a rookie who is also learning an entirely new position on a team that's in win now mode. I think Woodson would be a good fit on a 1 year deal replacing Adams. That said, I don't think it happens. Woodson's coverage ability mixed with his ability to play closer to the line and blitz from multiple defensive backfield spots would be a solid addition at least in the short term imo.

It wouldn't be for this year. In the FOs eyes there's nothing wrong with safety. Adams and Moore will be getting the time while carter and Bruton there for depth. Making it a gradual transition for Webster. He wouldn't be thrown in there that fast.

The fact the niners turned him down and went with a rookie tells me there's a significant drop off in his game. Niners want to win now and are only a short distance away from doing that. Seems that's more a good fit and they still went with a rookie instead.

Rod Woodson is pretty old, man.

Charles Woodson, on the other hand, could be a useful asset in nickel packages and perhaps covering tight ends. Seems like no one wants him so I'm guessing he'll be signed for pretty cheap.

He's gonna be 37 this year. That's old for his position when you have chronic toe and shoulder issues. I watched Dawkins sit on the sidelines when it counted. For the money he wants i dont think he wants a situational role. I think either he goes back to pack for one last hoorah or retires a packer.

I read he would take a serious pay cut to play for a contender

NO - you can't develop guys when you keep bringing in old washed up players. We've got a nice mix of vets already. I don't think he adds anything really. We had the #2 defense last year, we just had a melt down in the secondary in the playoffs. They will learn from it. Much like we did in 96, we've learned and now we will win.

Who do we cut?

Seriously, who?

Unless we're tossing Mike Adams this is pointless thought.

Also, Woodson won a Super Bowl in Green Bay. It's not like he needs to play again, let alone for a contender. The champion box is checked.

I think we should see how the secondary depth chart falls before we bring in anyone else....as for adding veteran leadership, if these CB's can't learn from arguably the best ever in Champ Bailey, then they're never going to learn.

We should be set at CB barring Father Time's cruel mandate with Champ and if Cromartie decides to stay focused....with Harris, Carter, Bolden and Webster adding depth.

Safety seems like a huge concern for many on here, but it's obviously not that huge of a concern for the brain trust in Dove Valley as they haven't signed or drafted any S.....they are still encouraged by Moore's progress despite getting beaten deep in playoff loss, and they still have faith that Carter can keep his head out of his ass and supplant Adams, who while not spectacular last season was solid, and provides quality depth if he doesn't start. We also re-signed Bruton for depth and to keep his special teams talent.

However injuries in training camp/preseason could force us to shuffle or scramble for another quality player before the season starts.....

My monies on Carter starting the season at SS so I see no reason to bring in Woodson.

No thanks to CWood. Rather have Kerry Rhodes if you're going to sign a FA safety.

1 year, 2 mil why not? Worst case he's depth and provides some good leadership and insight to the younger guys, maybe he can even tell someone how to not let up a 70 yard touchdown pass.

Considering Mike Adams got his roster bonus back in March for making the squad upwards of ~ 1.25 million, I don't see him being a candidate for getting cut at all. They would have done it prior to him getting that bonus had they felt he wasn't worth it.
