Maybe Elvis has been smart w/his money and investments. But, we've read countless stories of these "Millionaire" NFL players that are now bankrupt (The latest being Joey Porter's house being foreclosed). It's quite possible Elvis is not as rich as he could/should be.

I don't know either way, or that he's basing his decision soley on the highest bidder. But, to assume he's sitting on $20, $30, $40 Million and just being greedy, could be a bit of a stretch.
According to dumervil when he signed the extension that its not about money.

If its not about money then why is there a problem here? It's not about money when it's falling in your lap. But it sure is when some of it is being taken off that lap.

Pass rushers are a premier position. You don't let them walk away at age 29. Trying to win a title you say? Then you don't let your best pass rusher walk. You just don't.

How about asking Champ to take a pay cut? He's not worth the $10M he's getting this year. Take a few from him. That's just one of many options the team had.
Wouldn't more then a handful of teams be offering him top dollar then? And our best pass rusher

It's hard to day what teams are offering at this point.

I think he'll get a better deal from another team when this is all said and done.

He's only officially just hit the market and had a change in agents. It will take a little time to sort it out. We'll see when the dust settles.

If he doesn't sign for more then the 12 million dollars he was originally owed then John Elway was 100% right to want him to rework his contract.

I'll never agree with that. We are in win now mode and he Elway just chased away one of our best defensive players. This was the high cap hit of his deal. Like I said before, I'd bet that Elvis would have re-done the deal after this season anyway.

There was no need for Elway to go on this power play against Doom. And it's horribly unfortunate that because of that decision, we've lost our best pass rusher.

I like how you base your entire argument off of "would have" and "probably"

Keep saying Doom is our best pass rusher, that really makes me want to take you seriously.

However you want to rank him against Ware and Allen, (who both had far superior support casts) Elvis was an Elite player at a premier position which makes your claim that his contract was "Ridiculous", well, ridiculous.

How did he chase him away? Doom agreed to the $8 million. Now he's very likely going to end up with less, suggesting that the $8 million was more than fair.

I get the feeling had Elway and co demanded Doom give them a decision a day before the NFL required like he suggested, that he would of been the first one to b**** if Doom didnt accept it

"There were still 20 hours till the deadline, Elway you idiot. Good job chasing away our best player!!!"

Broncos have made an offer to Elvis. As reported yesterday, Elvis is considering his options (shopping).

We will see how it plays out. There isn't currently anyone on the roster than can match Doom's production and the threat he brings.

Who ever Elway has in mind to replace him or a combination of players, I hope it works out for the team in the long run.

But this is still just a bad piece of business all-around in an otherwise stellar start to Elway's GM career.

Good. Unless they are real close to agreement , If the Broncos offer is not taken , then MOVE ON!
Let Elvis find his level of worth after we do what we need to.

30 million dollars on the line and he is trying to find a KINKOS? He should have been IN one the last two hours if he doesn't have one of his own.

Sheesh!

It was stressed to me that the dead money (4 mil) not that big an issue in the Elvis negotiations. They can deal with that.

Something I clearly stated all along but the NFL/Denver writers bar Vic claimed it couldn't work given the dead caproom. Bunch of idiots comes to mind.

Not many would disagree that there isnt. I certainly don't think ayers/another player combo would live up to that production. The problem here is the market for paying the big bucks in today's NFL is at QB, not at DE. The recent signings of good pass rushers warrant that. Doom is better than those recent players who signed, which is about 8 instead of around 12. Doom had agreed to that. For all weird after that.

It was an insane amount for that position back then and an even more insane amount for that position in 2013. Ie ridiculous.

He made like 20 mil last year. Going to a 1/3 of that - and no one anywhere is offering anything more than that - has got to stick in his craw.
