If it comes down to Denver or Baltimore.....

There's no way he goes to the Ravens with the exodus that has transpired. He's just milking it. But it is getting old.

The Denver comPost article yesterday made it sound as if Doom were throwing a tantrum. Denver is apparently offering more money and he's sitting there crying about "wanting to feel wanted." What on earth is that crap? I don't have patience for this - sign back on and let's get ready for the Super Bowl already.

Is he milking the time to see if Denver's other options sign elsewhere?

If we bring in Freeney, I expect a significant increase in sacks and pressures over his last two years. In 2011 he was on a real loser team with an offense going 3 and out regularly and most teams running down Indy's throats to run out the clock.

Still he managed 8.5 sacks on that sucky team.

Last year he was played out of position as an OLB in a 3-4 Defense for the first time in his career and also missed two games with injuries which hampered and slowed him down in several more games as well (think the drop off in Von's production in year one after his bad thumb injury even though he only missed one game).

In the prior three years with Manning on Indy and a decent but not dominate defense around him Freeney had sacks of 10.5 in 08, 13.5 in 09 and 10 in 2010 before everything changed for him in Indy .. and none of those teams had a defense like we do now.

Freeney was always Indy's prime #1 pass rusher as well and drew most of the double teams which he will not do so here. I expect him to resume at least his 10 to 12 sack range performance with lots of pressure on the QB all season long if we pick him up. Reuniting with Manning for one more shot at a ring will be major motivation for Freeney.

Most of the above applies to Abraham too, though his last couple years he benefited far more from a better overall team and defense around him than did Freeney.

Plus, John A is going on 35 and is getting up there in years, even though he still played at a high level last year. Either way, I think we get two good years out of either of these guys and likely we draft a promising DE pass rush prospect to develop later this month to rotate and learn and be ready to fill in as soon as needed.

While having a motivated Doom resign would still be the obvious preference, its very possible we might be better off now and in the longer term going without Doom and using our resources more creatively while replacing most, if not all, of Doom's sack and pressure production for a good deal less money on any one guy.

You can only scheme so much, eventually it comes down to can you effectively rush the passer with your front four alone.

we didn't do that enough last year with Doom and he had 11.5 sacks.
his sack production can be replaced. ideally you keep him but the DE talent in this draft is insanely deep and you only need 5-8 sacks from a rookie plus some run stopping from Ayers. you also have Wolfe going into his 2nd year with a improved DT rotation.

let's not romanticize it. Doom is a good player who can be replaced.
i would love for him to come back as it would allow us to fix the RB situation early and take BPA from there on. or even BPA and then RB.
but this comes down to a player listening to bad advice from his agent and now him wanting to be buttered up by the FO because they felt no remorse in protecting themselves.

What this defense really needs is a quality speedy MLB who can get out in zones and coverage. If we had that we could run what amounts to a 5-2 with Von coming after the QB on almost every play. Problem is we don't have anyone that can get into that zone to cover.

he doesn't have to be speedy. solid speed with really good instincts.
we need a leader who can make plays and help take away key issues.

Obviously Manti is not the fastest LB, but I think he can get into those zones and make a good first read.

If we lose Doom, I say we pick up Manti.

So Doom said he prayed and slept on it last night. Now what? This is ridiculous - and I'm ready to ditch him.

Weight loss would help, but I don't want the Manti circus here. We're at our quota of player-related media circuses.

I don't think Manti is a good fit for us, because of the role Von Miller plays as strong side linebacker in the base defense the middle linebacker ends up doing a lot of coverage especially on tight ends and Manti is not fast enough to man up on any current tight ends.

I think Alec Ogletree or Arthur Brown are much better fits in the middle, they both have the speed and cover skills to man up on tight ends (I believe both used to play safety).

not really. he played at 255 during the season and dropped down to like 241 for the combine. he needs to plat at 250-255. the speed of him isn't the big issue. it's the lateral movement and positioning.

The timing of this in his career likely means this is one of his last significant contracts. So I understand trying to get as much money as possible. The feeling wanted crap is annoying, if true, it's all rumor. Being cut was not because they didn't want him, it's because he didn't get his paper work in on time. His over priced contract wasn't wanted. It's a business.

The longer he waits, the less likely we are going to sign Freeney or Abraham. At this point, it's about the good of the Broncos...

Only because three of the top four FA DE's are owned by one agent. You can bet JA isn't sitting around waiting for those guys to find a home first.

At what point does Doom's crying lifke a b**** about wanting to feel wanted(jesus christ when did Renee Zelweger start playing football?) Become too much and the team moves on. Freeney and Abraham aren't going to wait all offseason for Doom to quit feeling sorry for himself. This crap is becoming an issue that can hinder the team if we keep waiting
