I read on twitter that his contract is for 2 yrs, 10 million w/ a voidable 2nd year. I thought it was just a 1 year deal?

For the club's perpective, Every contract is really just a one year contract as we are seelng with Elvis. Only thing that matters is the cap hit this year.

I totally don't understand it either. Mays is like the Travis McGriff of the Elway era.

He's an excellent special teams player, so maybe they are trying to get him to take a big paycut to stay on in that role.

There is no reason to cut Mays until we actually need the cap saving - unlike Dumervil his contract will not become guaranteed until the first week of the regular season so we can cut him any time or we can simply wait it out and see how things play out if we don't need the cap space.

I don't like that 2nd voidable year, basically stretches the cap hit over two years. They've done an excellent job of ensuring little to no dead money, and this goes contrary to that strategy.

So does that mean he's a FA after this season still?

Considering we are at 52K of cap room right now, I would disagree that it's not much.

Don't worry, my panties are just fine.

Its dead money next year. And we have plenty of cap flexibility. We havent restructed/cut Doom, Kuper, Mays, McGahee, or a host of other players that i'd consider expendable.

That is a secondary concern right now, we won't be playing a game for nearly 6 months.

I'm going to safely assume the Broncos have a plan. And we're going for it over the next two years, of course there's going to be some risk involved.

Did you really think I was going to pass up an opportunity to post IAOFM's take on this?

Damn, that's a real one-sided deal (in our favor). If he doesn't pan out, we cut him before next year at no expense.

McGahee was a top 12 NFL RB, before his injury against the Chargers. Yeah he's a year older. But he's still got it.

Best RB the Broncos have on the roster right now. That ain't gonna change unless they draft Lacy at #28.

Broncos may like him as a bkup special teamer. So.....hear me out.

By waiting this long to cut him his choices dry up. So maybe he comes back to Denver on a 1 yr deal etc etc. He's good on special teams and wouldn't stink as a reserve player. He may find his way on to the roster. I'd say right now Elway just doesn't need his cash to sign anyone so he is holding off.
