I ask you all a question. What is one thing that you do repeatedly every year that is wasteful spending ?
Example cable television excessive clothes shopping. If your brave put a rough estimate by the amount. If your really brave call out your spouse on theirs. Doing a report, thanks in advance. |

Not too much. Maybe my motorcycle, but even that has a bit of a value when I do have to commute once a week (60mpg FTW!).
Insurance: $75/year Tires/Maintenance: $400/year Gas: $200/year (after offset by savings from car) Other wasteful items : Internet and Netflix would probably be considered wasteful. $700/year. Eating out: Probably $2000/year (yikes!) Starbucks: $300/year (we go on Saturdays) Liquor: $600/year |

The only thing in the past year (going back to 2012) I would classify as wasteful spending is $90 a month for a smartphone and plan through Sprint. I got rid of that in August and went to one of the simple phones where you just re-up on minutes. I'm going to get an unlocked GSM/GMA phone from Amazon and go on their $45 a month plan -- you can even get an iPhone 5 on it, but it costs like $600 bucks -- which is way too much for a phone.
Eating out once or twice a week was also wasteful -- would spend $50 a week going out to eat when that is good groceries for me for two weeks as a single guy. Other than that, not much. I spend little, save a lot. |

Vacations.
I spend between 10 and 20k a year on vacations. Pretty ridiculous considering I still drive a 99 honda accord. |

I'll go with cable tv. It's this crutch I can't seem to get rid of because I'm a very passive TV watcher and still like to have it on in the background. I'm sure if I got rid of it, I'd quickly adapt, but can't seem to pull the trigger on that. Before that it was going out to eat. I never used to cook for myself, and never REALLY realized how much of a drain that was. I'm saving thousands a year now just cooking for myself, with the occasional night out. |

I guess I should list mine to be fair.
Car and truck projects 5 to 15 k a year cable tv 1200.00 a year boat 3k a year hunting/fishing 2k a year. eating out 3600 a year. bar trips 600.00 a year ------------------------------------------------ 25,000 Ouch. Now to be fair I added 15K a year for my car toys when on most years its probably closer to 5 K. Still ouch. |

Clothes Shopping - $100-200 monthly
Fast Food - $5-8 a day, $25-35 a week, $100 - 140 monthly Gatorade at gas stations - roughly $2 -3 a day, $10-15 a week, $40-60 monthly im very impulsive while getting gas or at a checkout line, on top of that i commute daily to work and never wake up early enough to pack lunch which always involves me getting breakfast /and or lunch daily. |

This is over now, but I have a bad habit of paying early termination fees on cell phone contracts. I replace my phone about once a year. Ends up "costing" me about $250/yr or so.
T-mobile finally has a off-contract plan that is awesome. |

Gurkha cigars: 600.00 a year
Clothes: 2,000.00 a year Directv: 1500.00 a year Dog Insurance x 2: 1200.00 a year Those are things I would consider luxury items... Gas, car payment etc is not wasteful to me. |

Trust me after posting that i realized i really need too ha. It honestly is just a time issue, waking up later than ideal to pack lunch. When i do have enough time i pack a lunch..but im not a morning person one bit. The clothes involves me having recently graduated and now working in the buisness/law firm atmosphere and needing more professional attire. i always justify buying a new dress shirt or pair of shoes as a need. but honestly i have more than enough |
