Editing this post regarding Free Agency...
If the Broncos cut DJ Williams and Joe Mays, their cap number is still $130M. They are allowed to use the $14M rollover from last year. If they add Terrance Knighton (~2.5M), and Sean Smith (~$4M), their 2013 cap number goes over $136.5M...giving them a bloated roster heading into 2014. That is precisely why they need to cut Dumervil's salary NOW. I believe more players will be cut in 2014 (Prater?, Moreno?, etc.) to make room for re-signing Beadles, Walton, Decker, Woodyard...and bumping up Miller's salary a few million. Too bad Manning won't take a pay-cut from $20M. Code:
Index Pos. Player 2013 Offense 1 1WR D. Thomas $2.43 2 2WR Eric Decker $1.51 3 3WR Brandon Stokley $1.00 4 4WR Andre Caldwell $0.90 5 5WR Matthew Willis $1.32 6 6WR T. They even tendered Colquitt a "Right of First Refusal" contract today, which is $1M less than the 2nd-round tender...and is a big gamble. Every dollar counts. I assume they will try to sign Knighton and a CB (like Gamble) in FA. Last edited by pricejj; 03-08-2013 at 04:40 PM.. |

That includes people who were signed to future contracts and tendered RFA contracts do not count unless they make the team. A bunch of those guys are going to be gone and FWIW, they have the total amount of contracts added (with salary and bonus) and includes dead cap space.
And it comes out to: 114,653,249 Which roughly puts us at 10 million under, before any of our guys are re-signed and any cuts of guys we have now or restructures. And FWIW, I doubt that all those future contracts that account for over 5,000,000 are going to make the roster anyways... Last edited by Requiem; 03-08-2013 at 04:13 PM.. |

Then you add a bunch of players as if every dime of their salary counts instead of just the difference between the new deal/tender and the player that would get taken off the Top 51. |

Yeah and the 49ers are 1 million under the cap and after the Alex Smith trade goes through they still don't have enough money for Revis.

The "reality" lost me when you don't know the difference between resign and re-sign.

Does mike Sullivan approve of this post? Don't tell dumervil they are in decent shape. He needs to assume they are strapped for cash this offseason.

Where is Clady's cap hit? He says he won't sign his tender. So I'm assuming he will get a long term contract before they let him walk.

Updated with a comprehensive roster salary table. Check it out in the OP.
It's going to be pretty dicey in 2014. They need to be able to hold onto Dumervil WITH him accepting a paycut. Tough to keep improving this roster while holding onto all of our own young FA's and adding players that we NEED for the team to get better. Fair sailing to the FO...they're gonna need it. |

I've always been curious why Manning wanted a $20 mill salary with his current fortune and the extra he makes from endorsements. If he wants another Super Bowl that salary only hurts the team he's on. In his shoes at his age and point in career I'm playing for $10 mill a year, but then again I don't know his current finances.

Projecting the 2014 cap situation in 2013 by just transferring over each contract is absurd. Check it out: you can cut people next year, too.
In addition to the things others have mentioned, you have Vickerson listed at 2.5 million. He's a free agent. |

I don't imagine the Broncos will be able to find a decent starting NT for less than that, unless they draft one, and plug him in immediately. Last edited by pricejj; 03-10-2013 at 10:50 PM.. |
