It's idiotic to cut Doom, period. Teams are always looking to add pass rushers, we're looking to get rid of them. I promise you if this were McDaniels pulling these strings, this board would be apoplectic.

This tells you all you need to know. Anyone interested in downgrading from Doom to Freeney for a cap savings of 3.5 million? No?

They have $14M rollover from last year, but that's not something you want to blow all in one offseason. Next year they have several internal FA's. Last edited by pricejj; 03-09-2013 at 06:02 PM.. |

Id rather have Doom at his salary now than any other DE on the FA Market.
This is ridiculous we are making a big mistake if we cut him. I hate the way this is going we are doing Doom dirty man smh |

Denver plays from the lead. They force the other teams to pass the ball. Getting rid of Doom and replace him with ? is not good for the team. Doom is a good player that rushes the QB and Denver is going to cut him because he does not live up to the over inflated contract they signed him to?Good luck if they think Freeney is going to breing anything to Denver, besides he is going to cost $6 million a year. Denver has plenty of cap room right now, improving on their 13 win season should not include getting rid of a guy who had 11.5 sacks last year and I believe 6 forced fumbles and numerous pressures. That is not how you improve this team. |

But if they already have $126M tied up this offseason, then sign a couple Free Agents...they will go into next season with about a $130M payroll, and still have to resign Decker, Beadles, Walton, and probably give a few million more to Von Miller... |

As you can see from the above table, if the Broncos cut DJ and Joe Mays, I estimate they will still spend ~$130M in 2013. Including re-signing Stokley, Koppen, Vickerson, and Bruton. I also added in the top 3 draft picks, which will be included in the top 51 (for salary cap purposes).
The Broncos are also looking for a starting RCB and starting UT in Free Agency which will probably add ~$4M and ~$2.5M, respectively. That would bring the 2013 Cap Number up from $130M to $136.5M, spending up all of the rollover from 2012. Of course, the Broncos would have to cut back down to the salary cap level in the 2014 offseason (with ZERO rollover). That is why they are trying to cut Dumervil's pay now...they need to save all the money they can heading into FA in 2014, because some more cuts will have to be made next offseason (Matt Prater?, Jacob Tamme?, Knowshon Moreno?, etc.), just to be able to get under the cap. None of the 2014 FA's (Beadles, Walton, Decker, or Woodyard) will be able to be offered raises unless more players are cut. Last edited by pricejj; 03-10-2013 at 10:19 PM.. |

I would have thought Manning would do what Brady did and offer a pay cut for himself so that they can sign who they need to. He's worth every penny of his contract but he's got the dough, he would like to add another ring or 2. I'll be curious to see if he does that this year or next.

Nope... you could only do it this year. You can't rollover money next season. Have to look for the piece where I read that.

Dumerville is held more than any other player in the league, and for whatever reason, virtually never gets the call.

Would love to know how many hurries/pressures he had too. How many times did he get the QB hurry a throw, or flush the QB out of the pocket for someone else to clean up, or force bad throws. Just because he had 11 sacks doesn't mean he only impacted 11 plays.

Broncos | Not much talk with Elvis Dumervil
Sun, 10 Mar 2013 14:25:32 -0700 The Denver Broncos have not been in contact with Marty Magid, agent for DE Elvis Dumervil, since Magid sent the team a contract restructuring proposal Friday, March 8. Read more: http://www.kffl.com/hotw/gnews.php?i...#ixzz2NBRV62Mu Since the flurry of contract proposals we've heard more abour Revis and SJ than Doom this weekend, maybe thats telling. |

That would be a pretty ruthless move by Elway. Not many multiple pro-bowlers get cut unless they're in the twilight of their careers and Elvis certainly isn't.
I can see the Broncos logic on one hand from a financial viewpoint but how do you begin to replace a guy who gives you a 14 sack average over the last 3 seasons he made the field for us ![]() To me you make moves like this when you're rebuilding, you never make a move like this when you're supposed to be challenging. |

I don't know... Maybe it's me. But Dumerville pretty much disappears in the big games.

Dumervil struggles against the run, but I think he still brings enough to warrant his contract. Could see if Denver would want to get a cheaper option though
Just from the quotes we've heard from his agent, sounds like they're not willing to take less money but even still Denver could even the yearly amounts ($11.6 million a season cap hit per year), and save about $2 million. |
