Good news: Chiefs will be in playoff mix next year.

Bad news: their ceiling is 1 win playoff win.

Same damn thing as the 90's.

You are missing the point.

I think everybody recognizes they are a better team.

The problem with the Queefs is that they have been using retreads for decades and it has gotten them no where in January. Steve DeBerg, Elvis Grbac, Trent Green, Matt Cassel...

The fans wanted so desperately for the franchise to finally gamble and draft a potential franchise QB.

It might be bad for Denver in regular season meetings, but Kansas City isn't doing jack **** in the playoffs. 43 years and counting is music to my ears!

This makes sense. Andy Reid is very good at making QB's look better than they really are. See what he did with Kolb, Vick even McNabb. And all things being equal, he's an upgrade over Cassel. I still think they draft someone.

Ha, no. KC does not have SF's defense, OL, or receivers. KC will win 4-7 games and will have a nice battle to avoid the AFCW cellar.

It doesn't even make sense. Reid loves the deep ball. Alex Smith's biggest weakness is his deep ball. He is the definition of game manager, which Reid has never gone for before.

Idk the Chiefs play some awful teams next year. Titans, Browns, Eagles, Jags, Bills, Raiders 2X.

In case you forgot, the Chiefs are an awful team. They were before this trade, and they still are.

More mediocrity for the chiefs. They'll be decent, but won't get past the first round with A. Smith.

What a bad year to have the #1 pick. Their only option is one of the OTs, or Chance Warmack. Anyone else would be a huge gamble. Dee Millner may not be a bad option though.

Either the checkdown or the defense, just like in SF.

I'd take our current staff and personnel over those teams.

That's how bad they are though. Pretty damn bad. We'll have to see after the draft though.

I think this is a good move for KC. Smith is better than Cassell. This move doesn't preclude KC from still drafting a QB this year and grooming him while Smith provides some stability with Reid coaching him up much like Harbaugh did.

A 2nd and mid round pick for a starting QB is not a high price to pay.

This. Most importantly KC doesn't have Harbaugh. How did smith look pre Harbaugh? To give a 2nd rounder and another 2014 pick is insane. It shows how desperate a team is in an offseason of crap QBs. Over paying

I agree he will make them better but considering how bad they were, better is relative. I still see no reason to fear them.

Really?

Matt Cassel - 58.9 completion %, 13,495 yards, 82 TD, 57 INT, 24 Fumbles, 80.4 Passer Rating

Alex Smith - 59.3 completion %, 14,280 yards, 81 TD, 63 INT, 36 Fumbles, 79.1 Passer Rating

His new contract will be a pretty price to pay. They can still draft a QB to groom but Smith isn't going to sit on the bench next year with a $50+ million contract. They're going to be stuck with him for a few years.

Reid coaching him up like Harbaugh? take a look at Reid's resume coaching up QBs. Not a good look. Guys like feeley detmer and Kolb were really coached up

I mean, it's like Christmas has come again. Andy Reid and Alex Smith all in one offseason.

KC will be better, but still hard to see them going far with Alex Smith and the rest of their personnel. They're probably a 6-8 win team next year.

Saying they will be a better team gets watered down by picking number 1 in the draft this year. Rock bottom worst in the league. So if they go 3-13 that can be labeled as better too
