Technically the way the rule is written after the ball is past him he is no longer part of the play, if you will. But at third base and after diving to make the play how is the third baseman supposed get out of the way. Some may also argue that the runner shoved him to the ground, rather than falling on him.

****ty way to end the game for the Sox, but what can you do.
The runner is also moving toward the infield grass, not the baseline.

So you don't worry too much, the fielder interfered with the runner, who was awarded the next base. The end.

Again, obstructed the runner. The base path extends 3 feet either side, so yes he was obstructing the runner.
It was a good call based on the rules.
Tough way for a World Series game to end though.

The basepath is anywhere on a straight line from where the runner began. To say that he was out of the basepath is absurd. Middlebrooks raised his legs to impede Craig, he wasn't trying to clear a path.

I never saw Middlebrooks legs hitting the runner.
Middlebrooks made an attempt to get up and the runner try to hurl over him...

Anyway you look at it, it's a ****ty way to win a World Series game. That was ****ed up!

Yeah. That was terrible. They should change the rules for the postseason.

You don't want to enforce clear, unambiguous rules.

After last night I'm impressed with how the team bounced back. Watching about 150 plus games this year I should have know they were going to fight to end

The Cardinals were just lucky to be here.

Beards. And everything.

I thought I was seeing double - this has been an odd game.

5 straight minutes of dumb and dumber telling us how there was no need to hold the runner....and then silence.

All it matters that the games are going back to Fenway. Still except this to go 7.

2 and 2. Last night ends on an obstruction call. Tonight ends on a pick.

Those people are ruthless, racist and hardcore losers. Jeez, man, that's so wrong, they deserve to have lost the game for being so classless...
