my guess is they'll survey the market. don't think they're in love with him by any means.

Cardinals have hit the skids and Yadi Molina is going to the DL.

Uh-oh.

The Tigers spanked the Nationals 11-1 today.

Torii Hunter finished off the month of July by going 4 for 5 with 2 doubles, a HR and 3 RBIs.

Hunter batted .351 in the month of July.

Nice season thus far for Hunter: .316 average, 65 runs scored, 27 doubles, 3 triples, 11 HRs, and 53 RBIs.

Excellent #2 hitter in Detroit's lineup and still has a solid glove in right field.

I think the 2 year deal Detroit signed him to will prove to be money well spent.

White Sox got some decent prospects for Peavy.

It is not like they are going to contend anytime soon.

Tell your White Sox to beat the damn Indians....they are trying to give away another game tonight.

They gave up 2 runs in the bottom of the 9th to let the Tribe tie up the game and they are tied in the 10th inning right now.

Never mind....Carlos Santana won the game for the Indians with a HR in the bottom of the 10th inning.

The few rare times I root for the White Sox to win and they piss away games that they had in the bag.

I gave up on them way back when they lost the Cub series. The team that loses those series goes into the dumper. Sox went on an extended losing streak right after that.

I did listen to Peavy's last game only because I was in the car that day, it was probably their best game of the whole year.

If you need the Sox help to get win the division your in trouble!

true but there was very little sizzle this season. the bigger deals came a few days before the deadline and most teams are trying to keep their cost controlled players(with good reason).

Sources said MLB was also given evidence supporting accusations that Rodriguez attempted to coerce at least one witness in MLB's investigation. That accusation is the basis of MLB's argument that Rodriguez may be punished for his conduct, in addition to multiple violations of the game's joint drug agreement.

I'm pretty confident that Detroit will take care of business and win the division....don't need your stinking White Sux to do me any favors, but it would be nice.

They really didn't.....Boston didn't give up anyone hugely important. We got owned as usual. This has been such an awful season.

More of a volume over quality prospects. It was the best we could get to unload some cash of a player we no longer need to pay big bucks for.

Avisail Garcia is a decent prospect.

I wouldn't be surprised to see him play well for the White Sox.

I figured he would be replacing Torii Hunter in RF for the Tigers in 2015.

Just be thankful they're in the Central and not the East where they'd be a 3rd place team.

Its amazing how the best players dealt are basically #3 starters, middle/setup men and utility fielders.
From what I've read, teams that were sellers were being stupid. The Mariners asking for top prospects for rental players that weren't exactly worth a top prospect even if they weren't rentals.
The Phillies missed the boat IMO to unload some guys to get some quality depth in the organization. I guess you could say the same with the Angels in a way.
I mean, Bud Norris is an average #3 guy, Peavy is a has been and at best #3, Garza's an above average #3 I suppose, borderline. Feldman, meh.
I mean, Soriano was the best position player dealt, a guy who has an OBP below .300 but a capable power hitter recently here.
I mean, the Mariners have 3 bats in Morales, Morse and Ibanez they could've gotten some okay prospects for but they wanted the freakin moon.
Then you have some relievers I felt could've been dealt in Perkins, Papelbon, etc. that weren't.
Its like the sellers didn't really want to sell for some reason.

It is odd. Take the Phillies, which you mentioned, as an example. Michael Young and Carlos Ruiz are both in the final year of contracts and it appears there was a market for both. Both remain Phillies. I guess they'll try to pass them through waivers and trade them in August? They also dangled Cliff Lee but asked for way too much, and nobody seemed interested in Papelbon I assume because of his contract.

Buck Showalter lobbying against the Yankees:

Quote:
If Rodriguez is suspended for all of next season, the Yankees would not have to pay the embattled slugger's $25 million salary for 2014. The unpaid money would not count against the luxury tax and revenue sharing, which would make it much easier for the Yankees to fall under team owner Hal Steinbrenner's goal of a $189 million payroll for 2014.

Showalter, the Baltimore Orioles' manager, told USA Today Sports that if commissioner Bud Selig suspends Rodriguez, it is unfair that the Yankees would benefit financially.

"If Bud lets them get away with that, they're under the luxury tax," the Orioles manager told USA Today. "If they can reset, they can spend again, and I guarantee you in two years Matt Wieters is in New York."

If the Yankees fell beneath the $189 million limit next season, they would significantly increase their luxury tax savings under the terms of the collective bargaining agreement.

Yeah, I think with Lee and Papelbon their contracts played a role in not being dealt. But shoot, no reason not to dangle Ruiz or Young to get something. I guess its kind of a sell low for Ruiz at the moment?
Figured the Mariners would've traded some of their guys, but nope.

The whole ARod ban and this with his contract are ridiculous. No, the Yankees shouldn't be awarded for their own stupidity. I still don't see why baseball is looking at punishing ARod so hard.
Also, Wieters is decent, but shoot if the Yankees want to overpay for him, go ahead.

Exactly, he was the one I was excited about, if one of the 3 prospects from Boston hit then we did pretty good and saved a bunch of cash.

If you sign a player that has admitted or failed a test in the past you shouldn't get help from the MLB.
