Could there be an NFL field change on the horizon? With all the concern lately about concussions and various injuries with so many NFL players, it's being rumored that a field change may be ahead.
According to the inquisitr, the league may be considering expanding the width of the field from 160 feet to 195 feet from sideline-to-sideline. The extra 35 feet would make the width the same measurements that the Canadian Football League uses and league officials believe that it could make football a safer game. http://www.examiner.com/article/nfl-...-player-safety more here too http://bleacherreport.com/articles/1...ty-precautions The National Football League has made player safety one of its top priorities and the move to a safer game reportedly yielded the suggestion that the league consider changing the playing field to a CFL-style design. According to Dan Pompei of the National Football Post, the NFL’s competition committee has already discussed the matter and could do so again this year: |

It'd mean a shift to speedier, breakaway guys that could take advantage of the space and there'd be more homerun plays so the league would probably benefit from it.

the CFL also has 12 men on the field.
Not sure how many of these new monster stadiums have the room to accommodate the bigger field. Somewhere in between would be good |

Hmm... so rather than trying to accommodate a larger field in the existing stadiums, removing one guy from the field would have the same impacts. Surely that guy would be something deep in the secondary so it'd lighten the over the middle hits.

It would put the fans further away from the action.

Why do you think teams would remove a safety? I figured they would remove a LB or DLine.

Just because his role is to be there when others break down and miss an opportunity. The LBs all have distinct and direct roles. Can you imagine trying to stop a running game with only 2 LBs on a widened field? Your DBs better be great tacklers.

**** No. It's gonna be like the CFL. So gay, and every team is going to score 60 points.

It would only be worthwhile if they also implement the Rouge.
