Or was it more like this.

You need to take a 4 million dollar pay cut and by the way here is Buick. They want you to do a few adds for the sum of 4 million.

Is that legal or are there rules against that ?

And if so could you really prove it.

I thought I read he gets the money back if he wins the AFCCG (2 Mill) and the Superbowl (2 Million). If thats the case, I sure hope he didn't take a paycut.

Why in the world would Peyton Manning need the Broncos to secure endorsements for him?

This is how that conversation would go.

Elway - "Peyton blah blah 4 million dollars from Buick."

Manning - "Tell you what, I'll keep the 4 mil in my contract and then go collect 100 million dollars from all my other sponsors. If there are any others you could possibly dream of arranging for me, please let my agent know and he'll look into them without you, because that's his job."

Get over it..not everybody in this world is money oriented but its hard for some of ya all to grasp because ya all will never know that feeling let alone ever see 4 million in your lifetime. When 4 million is the same thing as 4 dollars to you then you can begin to understand. Its about the SB to Peyton and nothing more..some of ya all seem more worried about his money then his accountant.

I think he did.
if we do not win the afc champ game (2 Mio)and the sb (2 Mio) he will not get his money.

if we win one of those or both he will get the money and that will count against the cap next year.

but really: if we win the sb elway can pay him 10 Mio....

If only he knew how true that was..Peyton has been doing commercials here in Knox since day 1 in the NFL and he does them still today..And theres billboards of him ALL over town..I would say hes just trying to justify why Peyton is a stand up guy and took the cut to help the team..because as I said from the get go Elway could not cut his pay out right because there was no justification for it..Peyton has done more here in Denver in his 1st 3 year tenure then any Bronco QB ever..

No, it's the offseason. Mannings pay cut has not been talked about quite enough so let's add another rumor so we can start another thread. And whether it's true or false who cares? It won't change anything. But, that's what we do in the offseason.

Converted base salary into unlikely to be earned bonuses, so it doesn't count against the cap this year. If he happens to earn them, they will count against the cap next year.

Peyton Manning has earned over $250m during his playing career alone.....and that's just football contracts. He's probably made at least that much in endorsements as well. Not a guy that is really all that concerned about $4m....more about whether they have a legit chance to compete for a championship. New coaching staff, maybe 8 new starters, new playbook, etc. Thus the reason for the delay.

It doesn't matter how Peyton felt about the pay cut. He agreed to it, that's all that matters. There's speculation the Broncos were asking for more then 4M and that Peyton rejected that but with no proof, it's just talk.

Can Manning win the Superbowl at age 39? As you know I think it's an uphill battle. Tommy boy did just win it at age 37 though.

I don't know why I'm posting this pic but this is Mrs Brady breast feeding. That kid looks a bit too old to me sucking on mama's tata, IMO.

That would circumvent the cap. A team can't find another way to pay a player. Maybe teams do it, but if caught they would probably lost first round draft picks and get heavily fined.

Ok so you all missed my point. Maybe it was a bad example. My point was do you think that the higher ups when reconstructing a contract to lower a great players salary ever say ok we are going to drop your pay by X amount and then here is this person that is willing to pay you to do X for the same or more money.

What I'm trying to get at is how important is the salary cap in reality. Are there back doors around it. IF so can it be proven and or has it been proven ?
